Joey coil

I've just bought a second hand joey coil, can any of you fine people who have one, give me some insights as to the performance of it please. I have bought it for a second Explorer that my 12 yr old son will use because it is much lighter than the stock coil. Thanks in advance.

I bought a Joey when they first came out Ser. # 0017. It works great, the sweet pin point spot on mine is right on the hat of the logo. I painted a yellow dot on it. I was told that the Joey isn't water proof, just water resistent, but if you put a silicone seam around where the cover and coil meet(I used black)the unit seems to be sealed. I pulled a Barber quarter at a measured 12" with it and alot of other silver in hard to hit places.

my explorer came with a joey and a sunray x-12. i bought a stock coil and sold the x-12. i use my joey more than the stock coil for two reasons: 1.) it's nice & light 2.) it's very easy to maneuver through the brush, weeds, etc. i think the stock coil will beat it for depth, but the joey's depth is very respectable. sunday i found a silver dime in a place my two hunting companions had both been over, so i dropped it back into the hole, maybe 3" deep. neither of them could get a signal! (i won't mention what brand detectors they were using...) the point i'm getting to is that i could pick it up clearly with the joey 6" in the air above the hole, so that's about 9". not too shabby, considering everybody says the explorer hates air.
you might end up stealing it from your son and let him develop his arm muscles with the stock coil.. <IMG SRC="/forums/images/biggrin.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":D"> <IMG SRC="/forums/images/wink.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=";)"> good luck & hh.
