Somehow I knew you were going to like that
I went out this afternoon for the negative tide... didn't have too much time as I had something to do today but I did get in 2 hours. I've settled on Audio 2, Ferrous, a threshold tone of 10, variability at 3 and limits at 5. I ran in all metal with the gain at 10... sensitivity at around 29 although I did max it out for a while. The theshold was very smooth and with the 3-4 tone set-up, having the gain that high didn't bother me. I tuned that stuff out in my head... the lower tones make it much easier on the ears. I'll take your recommendation and order the Black Widows as soon as I get permission from SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed)
The conditions were perfect today; best since I started doing this last year. I could have spent the rest of the afternoon there. I was hitting some real deepies. The depth you can get with this thing at the beach in unbelievable. No gold in the 2 hours I was there but I picked up a bunch of clad, quite a few of them nickels, and some assorted fishing tackle.
All in all, after "experimenting" the last couple of weeks, I've finally settled on the perfect settings for me at the beach and on land; with some minor adjustments depending on conditions.
Speaking of conditions... I went to a different beach on Saturday. There was massive beach errosion and the upper bank was down to a hard packed reddish black sand that reeked havoc on the Exp II. Could only get it stable in "auto sens". Playing with the manual sens, even at 16 it was unstable. I'm sure that auto brought it way down. Anyone ever come across that?
One other question... should I be digging faint iron targets that bottom out on the depth gauge? I tried quite a few but as I dug deeper, the iron tone got louder. Some mixed tone (deep) targets; good tone / iron tone, turned out to be good...
