JewelryGirl...How did the Galveston trip turn out??

It's good to see you posting here. I seem to have lost my pass word for the other forum, so haven't posted there in a good while. I suppose I should chase it up.
Mick Evans.

Hey Big cat Daddy! We had planned on going Tues. & Wed. and didn't go because of the weather. Then we finally got away on Sat. We left Smithville about 4:30 am and got to Galveston about 7:30am. Started detecting on Stewart beach and hunted till about 1:30pm. I got one gold ring and one silver. 2 earrings and about $2.55 in clad. My friend Jonetta she got her first ring ever and it turned out to be a 14k gold ring with a diamond in it. I posted a pic of it above. After we left Stewart beach we hunted the beach strip at 61st Street and picked up some more clad coins but nothing else good. We detected till about dark and then headed to the motel. We were going to hunt on Sun. but it turned out too cold and the tide was high. So we went on home. We got to go hunting today in San Marcus. You can check out some of my finds in the above post.

I am ready to go back to Galveston!
HH,

I was guessing it was a tad chilly.. :goodnight:
Supposed to be another Arctic blast roar through tonight. brrrrr.
I'm not much on chilly hunting.. Snow hunts? Not this boyee... :nono:

Beginners luck, huh!! I'm sure your buddy, Jonetta, will be pestering you steadily to go back again!! Sounds like both of you did OK!! Any hunt that brings in some gold is a good hunt, no doubt about that. Congrats to both of you, hope you get out again soon for some more loot!!! Oh, and don't forget to post the pics of your loot!!

Hey Mick!! It's been a good while since our paths crossed. I'm mostly a lurker on here anymore, but I pop on every now and then to post. I guess you guys are right in the middle of summer now whilst we freeze our bums off!! I expect to see you post some good finds here soon!! If you can't find your password, e-mail the webmaster and they'll send you another or tell you what yours is!! G'day Mate!!

Yep, Beginners Luck!!! Jonetta says she is addicted now! She said she is a member of the forum now so she will try and post later today. Her husband Mark just ordered him a detector yesterday after we got back with our treasures. I think he went with a Fisher F2. I have another friend that just got an ACE 250 that should be posting her finds soon. Her name is AJ.
Happy Hunting!!
Jewelry Girl

Wow, looks like you're gonna have some competition on your hands!! Too bad for Mark, though!! I just gave away an F2 (that I have tried to use several times) because it was probably the saddest excuse for a $200 detector I had ever tried to use. I hope my hunting buddy doesn't try to assault me with it, as in wrapping it around my neck!! Compared to the 250...there just wasn't any comparison. Now don't get me wrong, I own a Fisher ID Edge (pre First Texas) and it's a hunter. Excellent build quality and that little dog will hunt!! The F2 was like having a calliope in my headphones. It found stuff for me..kinda...but I felt like I should have worn a red rubber nose and big floppy shoes whenever I hunted with it. I couldn't even sell it in good conscience, just gave it away so I wouldn't be tempted to use it for a tomato stake this Spring!! Now, that's just my opinion...and you know what they say about opinions!!

Yep.
Beautiful and warm now. Expecting 31C tops today. I'm actually on another weeks forced holiday this week, due to rain (Finally!). Not enough to break the drought, but a great start. It's caused some flooding just to the north of us. We can't get the livestock to process. (I work in an abattoir.)
Doing pretty good on the coin count over the last few weeks. A bit over $350. Most of that was in Sydney, but have been able to get a couple of hunts in in the last few days ($25).
You might want to tell Jack to take a hike real soon. Seen a bit of your weather on the news over the last couple of days. I didn't know that global warming looked so white.:nono: It seems that our respective governments are hell bent on selling our prosperity down the tubes, for reasons unknown.
Mick Evans.

Like I said, I did find some stuff with that F2, but it just...just...just drove me nuts!! And in my case that's could be a VERY short drive!! I kept pulling the coil plug out as it didn't screw in and the notch system had to be reset every time you turned it off/on and there were only a few notches to work with. Dollar for dollar, the 250 is a better value with more features and better build quality. Again, just my opinion!!

Sounds like you've been doing OK dollar-wise, sure wish we had higher denomination coins here...sigh!!
We're not quite as cold here in Central Texas as most of the country is, but it's still plenty too much cold right now. Some of John-Edmontons cold Canadian air just blew in this morning and .......brrrrrrrr!! Should be warm enough by Sunday to get in a hunt though!! Not wam enough to don my budgie smugglers and hit the lake, but a dirt dig will be in order!!

BCD, I tried to convince Mark to buy the Ace 250 but he insisted on getting the F2. I think you are right!! We will have a big competition on our hands! She already has a gold ring to prove how good the Ace 250 is on the beach.

With him being a newbie, it will probably be OK for him as he won't have any mental benchmark to muddy his opinion of the F2. I'm sure that he will find stuff and be happy as a clam at first. Just be sure he wears headphones when he hunts with you guys or you might be tempted to whack him!! My first thought when I heard the sounds coming out of it was that I could get a monkey with a tin cup to sit on my shoulder and I could make a killing at the carnival if nothing else!!

I'm actually sweating a bit as I post this. I'm thinking about closing the windows and doors and turn on the air con. You are a lot luckier than your northern friends. I sometimes have a bit of a chuckle to myself when I look at where the major cities in Canada are located. Most of them are fairly well in the south, close to the US border. What are they saying.:ninja::devil: At least you can get out to hunt in winter free of white mold.
I'm a bit frustrated at the moment; from a detecting point of view. The missus is in Sydney while I'm at home with my eldest. I was forced to have this week off work due to rain and just rung up work half an hour ago to find out that I'm now having next week off due to drought.:stars::bouncy:. The frustration comes from the fact that only my eldest is home to go to work for a couple of part time shifts at the end of the week. (he just had a couple of weeks off). The youngest is at the national Scout Jamboree. I'm stuck at home unable to get to those luscious detecting grounds down in Sydney!:rage::throw::nopity::sad::lol:. So close, yet so far. Could have found another $300.
Mick Evans.
P.S. I just tuned on the air con. Sweet is really starting to bead off me now (and it's only 10:20AM).

Been colder than a well digger's butt in the Klondike here. Temps not to low but a 30-40 MPH wind blowing 24 hours a day and it just cuts you in two.. I walked out of Walgreens yesterday and it damned near blew me over and I hate wind with a passion, especially cold wind. I went to the store today and froze my butt off and I ain't got a whole lot to lose. HA.
