Jewelry signals.

Being a new guy with the X-70 I have a question I can't seem to square away in my head. I have been using the X-70 for almost a good month and have yet to find any jewelry, (a whole bunch of coins, even nickels). I have been doing plenty of digging. Could be I just haven't detected any. My question this time is, when you have found jewelry in the past what kind of tone, (solid-broken) did you get and did the numbers stick or float around a bit? Thanks

I just found my first 14k gold ring last week. The signal was varying from 8 to 18 - 20 I almost gave up but start to lock on 18 and 20 so a little more scanning and pinpointed in the corner of my hole moved some more dirt and there was my first gold ring! Wt was 5.4 penny wt.but to answer your question the number were bouncing all over. So know I am wondering how much other stuff I passed up with a bouncing signals? Just goes to show you don't know unless you dig.....Her is a picture not good one will post a better picture this week sometime. Found on the side line of a soccer field.

maybe you just have not swung your coil over any jewelry?

Guess I'm just hoping for an easy answer. Well, I shall continue digging. It's got to happen, (I think).

I am a dig everything type guy and I have only dug one gold ring this year, I dig tons of pulltabs, can slaw, and other junk hoping for gold, I just think I have not swung my coil over gold.

I have not found any other gold jewelry like chains or earrings but have read the numbers sometime lock in @ low numbers 4 or 6-8. So myself I been digging every thing the same as Goes4ever.

I think because of where I hunt, I have been digging every signal. But in the trashy area near it I have only dug the silver and copper coin signals. I should really start digging everything. There has to be rings around somewhere. Especially with over 140 coins from one area.

I would differently ck out them iffy signals...might be passing up some gold!

Really if your going after jewelry you have to dig ALL targets above iron broken or solid beeps. No magic pill here.

The silver that i have found seems to hit and lock in better. I only have 2 gold rings in a year of hunting. I used to not dig those iffy signals. I am now trying to dig more signals. It sure does get frustrating though. The trash digging gets old qiuck. I hope for gold all the time, Beale.

Most of the gold rings I have found with my XT50 (6"DD HF coil) have been between 6 and 9, sometimes locked, sometimes bounced from 6-9. Few have been iffy but the iffy on mine have been thin gold rings. Have found 4 in the 6-9, 2 iffys (thin) Hope this helps. HH John

Xwyokid,

First, you need to be using Pattern number 1. I even eliminate the -2 discrimination segment so small iron targets will be detected. I do this because small gold ear rings, chains and tiny gold jewelry will come in around 2, 4 or 6 and making the -2 segment detectable makes the tiny gold jewelry that comes in within that range clearer and less broken.

Gold jewelry will show up from just 2 up into the 20s. This means that if you really want to get the gold you are going to have to dig the foil, pull tabs and aluminum screw caps. That is just one of the facts of life when metal detecting. I use the 3 tone setting on my X-Terra 70, so while I occasionally get a low iron tone most of my tones are mid and high tones. The mid tone is where the gold jewelry and nickels come in and the high tone is where the silver jewelry, pennies and other coins show up.

I have attached a couple of pictures of a few of my jewelry finds. The tiny ones are examples that will come in down in the 2 to 6 range. The other picture is just a hand full of X-Terra 70 jewelry finds that came in over the full range that I mentioned.

God Bless and HH
