Found a beautiful ring this past summer. It's a gold ring. Although not very large, a beauty nun-the less. This ring does not have a karat mark inside, but a cartouche stamp. A friend of mine has told me that karat markings started just before the Civil war and that he believes that this ring is probably from the early part of the 1800's or even the 1700's. Does any one know if one can find the maker via the cartouche so this ring can be dated ? Thanks in advance for any help you can give......

I'd like to see the ring and cartouche! Can you possibly post a couple of pictures? Ron
