Jewelery

I have been out detecting and diging, and I have found a few silver dims,1 silver ring, 2 10 k gold rings, and today I found 7 thin silver rings on a band like it was ment for an earring or somthing. Ok now the question....I can usualy tell if I will be diging a bottle cap or a pull tab, and 3 of the silver dimes I was quite sure that they were silver. The wrest of the finds I was just diging any thing that I could repeat. Is this the way to find jewelery? or is there more to it than just diging every thing?
I went down to the oldest park in town, which has been here since 1887, and dug many tabs and a few pennys, the silver earrin thingy I was convinced it was silver when I heard it. I use smart find with iron mask at -8 and the factory setting for the wrest. I can't help but think that there is a lot of goodies in this park since I have only seen one person in the park in the last 6 years.
Thanks,
Cliff

You got to be careful about only seeing one person in six years comments ... you'd be surprized how often places are detected and unless you're there all day, every day you won't notice. On the other hand, it's better to see a few people than lots at any hunting site ;^)
I assume by jewelry you're talking about gold jewelry??? If so, you can eliminate some parts of your smart screen. Mostly the left/upper portions and the right/lower portions as these will have little gold. That leaves a central strip that goes from the bottom (a little left of center) to the top ( a little right of center) and approximately an inch or so wide. Platinum and thin rings can be right along the bottom and as you go upwards you'll find the larger pieces.
It's best to determine the exact areas to edit out by trying all types/sizes of jewelry. You can also eliminate certain spots that are high probability for junk (ie pull tabs, etc) but this will definitely eliminate some gold jewelry as well. The degree you try to fine-tune this is up to you, your tolerance for listening to junk and digging lots of targets, how desparate you want gold, etc.
Good luck & HH ... Gord.
