Jenny Lind, CA: Semi-Ghost Town

About a month ago I was visiting family up North and decided to check out a semi-ghost town from the gold rush days. Jenny Lind, CA is located right next to the Stanislaus River in the Sierra Nevada foothills. As you can see from the photos, the oldest buildings in town are in a state of disrepair. The commermorative plaque in front of what is left of the oldest buildings in town reads "Settled in the 1840's as a florishing gold mining, cattle ranching, and farming community". Today Jenny Lind continues to hold onto a few dozen homes that line Main Street and some of the other roads further up the hill. I did not have permission to enter the property where the old buildings sit, so I took the photos from the road, and through a chain link fence in some cases. The people living next to the old buildings did not seem to mind me taking photos, as I assume it happens on a regular basis by passersby.

turned loose in that old town to metal detect and explore, no telling what you would find. Also, I would love to have that old boat shown in the pictures. Thanks for sharing! Kelley (Texas) :)

The pictures are fantastic as with the story as Kelly said. Kelly, we think alike, that little boat caught my eye also. It's a shame that you couldn't go onto the property. Seeing those pictures really take me back to the old time western movies. Thanks for sharing them with us.
