Found this Japanese or Chinese coin and need help to find out age and type of coin it is. Found it in football field in Ft. Collins Colorado so I know know it's not ancient.

Looks like a Chinese coin from here - but I could be wrong.
Here's a link to a site that I used to date a few of the 1800's Chinese coins that I've found.
This site or one like it (do a Google search for similar sites) should give you the date (minting time span in years) of your coin.

I found one years back...I believe I read that the reason there are so many around is they were a giveaway attached to some sort of plant basket .. cool find..
 
I have read that years ago the Chinese put them on sewing baskets that they made. The baskets were used for storing thread and needles and were imported into the U.S.
 
Cool find was it near a railroad..I hear they lost lots of them working on the railroads nearby.

Yes, they did put these coins on sewing baskets - from what I read they were popular in the USA during the 1930's - 1950's era.
These old Chinese coins had no value years ago so they started using them as decorations.
