James N.D.

Hey James........... I have a question for you. You said that you know of a spot that may still hold some older coins in the 11 to 12 inch range. Is the depth because these coins have just gradually sunk over the years or is it that there may have been fill dirt put over the top of the old dirt? I didn't think coins would sink that deep as I believe the deepest coin I have ever found around my area was only about eight inches, but then I am not the expert like you are when it comes to picking up those really faint signals. Maybe in time I will figure out just what they sound like. I was also thinking about getting one of those 12 inch excellerator coils one of these days. Do you have one or have any thoughts about these coils? Thanks for any help and good luck on your upcoming club hunt. I see yours is on the 19th, same day as ours is.........:) Where abouts is your hunt going to be? One more thing and I won't bug you anymore. I am the vice president of our detecting club and I was wondering if there might be a way to get on your mailing list for your monthly news letter if your club has one? I would be willing to pay for the postage or even joining your club to receive your news letter. Our club gets other news letters from different clubs and the fellows enjoy looking at them. Thanks again and HH.

Hello again Eddie! There is 2 different reasons for the coins being as deep as they are. The 1st possibility is that the park is next to a river and every spring if there is a lot of water, it floods a bit. This in turn would make the coins sink faster or should I say the mud from the river would add a thin layer to the surface every time it flooded so this could be the reason. The 2nd possibility is that at one time they had a small dike built around the park and I am not sure if they did any kind of ground work in this area but it could be a possibility also. Which-ever reason, the coins are really deep here in this area I found and worked and I could just about imagine what lies another 8"+ deeper in the ground. Barber and Indians I am sure! Now for your question about the Excelerator 12" Coil. I do not own one of these type of coils but I do own a 12" Sunray. I really haven't put much effort into any in field test's or use yet with this coil but a friend of mine owns one and he has permanently switched from stock coil to the Sunray X-12. He says his kids can't get the signals that he can with the 12" coil and says it gets about an inch more depth and wouldn't hunt with another coil. His kids use the stock 10.5" coils and I haven't tried any weak signal comparisons with my X-12 yet so I couldn't tell you much about the coil itself. One thing you have to remember is that the bigger the coil, the more it will mask things if in extreme trash or iron but in a nice open field with minimal iron or trash, it could be a very good coil to try since it will cover more area and get a little deeper than the stock and it is also lighter and more balanced than the stock coil also. For the Club Newsletter, I will PM you an E-Mail address of the President of the club and you can see if he can shoot you a copy of it or tell you what you need to do to get our Newsletter's delivered to you. For a 1 Year Membership it is $20 a person or $25 for a family Membership but I think the single person would work for you. Let me know if you get a response back and let me know if you were able to get one sent out to you. Thanks Eddie for the questions and I will always try to help you out the best I can at any questions or what have you. Good Luck and HH.
