BEACH HUNTER

New member
I HAVE NOT SEEN YOU POST IN A WHILE.I LOST YOUR # AGAIN WHEN I HAD TO REPLACE MY PHONE.I STILL GOT THE SAME # SO GIVE ME A CALL OR P.M ME WITH YOURS. I HAVE HIT A FEW SMALL SILVER HOLES NOT MUCH GOLD!! I DID GET A 1821 8 REALE AT WORK...BY EYE IN SOME FRESH TURNED SOIL.

I was going to give you a call but it wasn't exactly a planned hunt. I was encouraged by what I saw as the last time it was sanded in bigtime!

I've been hunting fields with Ron and a guy I grew up with down the Cape named Kevin most of the summer and have made some phenominal finds. Also met a newbie a few weeks ago named Steve and we have been showing him the ropes... he found his first old coin (a beautiful 1864 2-cent)in one of our old-faithful fields and was so excited, it reminded me of when I was a newbie and you, Marc, and Bob were showing me how to hunt the beach.

Congrats on the 8-Reale. I know the date isn't exactly rare, but it must be nice to find a big hunk of Spanish Silver like that just sitting on the top of the ground.... I have yet to find anything larger than a 1-Reale.

I will PM you my number again and maybe plan a hunt. Starting to get the itch to find some gold and add to my (small) ring collection.

IM HUNTING FRI THE 13TH AM LOW. I GIVE YA A REPORT!!

I went out last night for a few hours around low tide and had reasonable luck - if I hadn't had to get up early this morning for work I think I probably would have stayed much later.

Hampton was unimpressive for me, so I took a run to Salisbury. I hit a patch with clad popping up every step - eventually ended up with $4-$6 worth before it quieted down. Also picked up yet another mood ring and a nice silver toe ring (boy do I have a collection of those going from this year!!).

Hunting a farm field with some folks this Saturday and hoping to come across some nice old coins with any luck.

Hope you found some goodies BH.

I found mostly dimes and quarters and there were quite a few pulltabs, bottle caps and lobster trap parts that got dug up in the process too.

I'm far far far from being an expert, but I am starting to see little trends in the sand here and there and getting a little better read on where to hunt and what to look for.

The key to last night for me was to give up on Hampton after 30-40 minutes of hunting and not finding much of anything rather than continue to pound it hoping to hit some hot spot. Once I got to Salisbury, I hit a quarter fairly quickly and when digging it up, I noticed that I was hitting much coarser sand/gravel with shell pieces in it 2-3 inches under the top layer of sand.

I spent a little time going up and down the sand from the flat wet stuff to the high dry stuff and discovered pretty quickly that there was a band a few feet wide that seemed to have the shallowest concentration of "top" sand and 75% or more of the clad came from there as well as the mood ring. I kept thinking there had to be more down closer to the water, but every time I ventured down that way I got no signals other than rusty nails and stuff.

After awhile I went to another spot where there really was no "cut" in the sand, but I again hit some clad quickly and found the same thing I had at the first area - there was a clear boundary of sand that had a shallow layer of fine sand on top and really course gravel underneath and that's where I got the last of the clad and the toe ring. I would have stayed there and walked alot more if I had the time.

Still discovering new things every time I'm out

lots of lead and junk too! hit a real good clad patch in the middle of the beach, got the old stuff from a nice dune cut..no gold! 2 of the Indians are fatties 1862,1859 no shield, got a 1897 barber .25c too.keep hitting it the stuff is out there pick the right spot, right time..

when you get those patches of coins slow way down and go over the area and you holes many times you will be amazed what is still there dig every signal you get thats how you get the gold.
