Jailbroken Minelab CTX 3030 - what feature do you desire??

Like the Apple iPhone - Just think - what if? There has to be a programmer out there that's capable and a metal detecting fanatic... This way, like the iPhone with Apple, Inc., we get all the features we want that Minelabs holds back. Sorta like - take Minelab out of the equation of updating the CTX 3030. There are hackers for most any device these days - sure your warranty will be void but if a solid jailbreak was a reality... Many techies would I bet be tempted.

Tens of millions of I-phone users willing to pay for enhancements (apps) for the Apple. How many CTX users willing to spend enough money to entice someone to write code.

I have asked before how many would pay $20 or $50 for some of the most requested enhancements?

I would pay if it was available. I would just use the clad that I have found to pay for it.

I understand the math behind Cydia and the ka-zillions of iPhone users. IPhones are not a hobby. I think a hobbiest may do it for different reasons and without pay. Many metal detectorists who provide metal detecting information on the net ask for PayPal donations. Or they just might do it for the hobby of it. As I understand it, it would be legal to do so if successful at doing so. Again, just a hypothetical thought.

If Minelab shuts the book early on updates for the CTX 3030 maybe there will be other avenues to updating our discontinued "updatable" machines.

It would be welcome, because it sure doesn't look like Minelab cares. Over a year with nothing to show for all our posts that they supposedly read.

Maybe their long hoped for upgrade is in field testing right now and we just don't know how close it is!

Well if it is I wouldn't care. I love my ctx and have found some amazing stuff with it. Ya I wish they would treat customers better but I guess if it's not broke don't send some bull crap update that's gonna screw it up.

I've been wondering about this myself for some time now. I would love to see "hacks" for the ctx, I would also like to see more third party accessories like a "super" coil that sniff out gold chains.

I'm a programmer, and I think eventually in the future we will see more detectors with operating system capable of community upgrades like Apps.

Great idea and it's an open market.

I would pay for some decent upgrades. I have been using this machine for a bit over a year now and I am still trying to figure it and it's potential out. Bear in mind that I upgraded from a Whites 6000 DI so the CTX was a totally new experience. I am getting the hang of it and am very pleased with the performance so far. Shoot I would pay for a decent how to manual as well!

Give me bin volume control and I'm all good! Love to here the iron but would just be in hog heaven if I could turn the volume down to a low level!

Lol....Jailbreak for 3030....love it. I don't know.....the warranty thing scares me.....tempting though.....but, I would be to nervous.
