Jackpot in Australia

Its been a long time since I posted anything to this forum but I just couldn't resist the opportunity to show our latest finds.

I now know how the old gold prospectors felt when they first went into the Australian gold fields and found nuggets laying on the ground just ready for someone to pick them up. Now these days you don't find to many gold nuggets laying around but the Aussie $1 and $2 coins are the right colour and if laying on the surface in the sun they certainly have the glint of gold.

So after a recent event that attracted a lot of people I decided to take my two young children to do some serious detecting, something which neither of them had really done before. What can I say, but they are now well and truly hooked after we hit the jackpot. After four days and detecting for about two hours each day we came away with just under $1000 most of which were $1 & $2 coins. My children picked up $360 between them and my wife who wouldn't be seen dead holding a metal detector even had a go on the fourth day and managed to find $38 and I myself using the Etrac with a 15" coil came away with almost $600 in total.

The money was laying on the ground everywhere, walking into the sun you could see these little golden coins just laying about and I guess I must have picked up a $100 or more without even having to detect them while the rest of the coins were buried in the grass or under a thin layer of soil.

It been a great few days and I will be going back as I know there is still more to be found although we have taken the cream off the cake so to speak. In the meantime a picture tell a thousand words so enjoy.

Great post. That must've been a huge outdoor event. Thanks for the story and the picture.

He, he, my niece just sent me a message saying isn't it great when a family can go out for the day and MAKE money instead of costing you money.

My son (11 years old) has just gone to the bank this morning to change his coins into notes, says he wants a $100 note to pin up on his wall. :)

Yes, it was a big event many thousands of people and at a return of around $100 per hour for our efforts, hell that beats working any day. :wiggle:
