New member
in 'gold , gem and treasure magazine, there is an add for jack lange detectors. is anyone here farmilliar with these detectors?

the 'goldsnoop' model, retails for just $239 (aud). how does this detector compare with the 'bounty hunter'T4? ($325 aud)

will the goldsnoop treasure hunt as well as the T4?

There is no forum on here dedicated to the gold snoop enough said.
Cheers!

just because a small compny doesnt have the profile of larger ones, doesnt mean they are no good nugget. if you have something 'sensitive' to say about them, you can pm me. and by logging on here and asking questions i am doing my research....how do you think i dicovered BHT4? or the minelab range etc.

just registered and Ihave a Discovery 2200 and 3300, and bh 202. Can the coils be interchanged? I went to Radio Shack to but a coil for the 202 and saw the 2200 on sale and got it, Got home and my wife was interested on getting one. Only a 3300 was left and got it. She won't trade , but I am happy with my toy. I have been to local parks to get used to the detector. Looking to get to the beach in Galveston. It's addictive and fun not knowing what you will find. Enjoy reading the stories. Any detecting clubs near Conroe tx?

Hi Peter and all on this thread, this is my first post and new to forums of any kind. Would like to add to peters request of information on the Goldsnoop v BH tracker iv. Before i begin Peter, i can say that i do own a goldsnoop md 1023 only and have not compared the two machines side by side. A while back i was going to buy my first ever md in being the bht4 but did not do so, if i can remember, the sales guy could not convince me as to why i should buy this particular one. Just letting you all know i am not putting bht4 down in anyway as i have heard and read all good testimonials on them, they are a good machine, although the good sales guy did give me a demo on the bht4 and i think the overall sensitivity seemed to be the same. Just in case your asking the model md 1023 is not from the one that is sold by JL Detectors in australia for $239 but the kmart one bought in melbourne for $89 and not modified at all, as i am aware there are some mods being talked about. Both these units are identical in appearance and electronic circuit design. "Speaking of Mods i would like to discuss with people who are interested in the like and willing to share information at another time".
One thing to remember these detectors do vary in quality control and the key is as stated on another forum is too get the good working one. On a technical point of view, the circuit board is well designed but due to low grade quality components used by the manufacturer makes this detector being critisized more as each unit varies in performance from one another. This should not deter anyone looking to buy one as these machines as they work very well and as for the money i paid there's nothing to loose. The one i have is one of the good working ones and if i compared it to JL's modded ones, i dont see a difference as i get the same air tests as stated by him in the magazine G.G.T.
I am quite happy and satisfied with this detector due to a few reasons as listed below.
The bhtiv has a slightly bigger control box design , not my liking, i found the gsnoop much smaller and better designed control box, the unit is lightweight, easy to use and not so many complex functional settings required, very low drain on good quality batteries and a thick durable plastic coil.
People will be asking by now how the detector performs in the real world?, well to start off i have only used it for about 15 hours all up in two months, the places where i have been is, one regular local park where i live in northern suburbs Melbourne, Castlemaine and Maryborough in country Victoria. No beach at all! but will be doing so soon. I have found so far at local park, my second target ever a md, 5 x DMK1896 and 1899 German Military bullet catridges, wow, call it beginners luck and so far 8 pennys, 2 threepence. 4 shillings, one being worth something, current coins in use, a very old damaged fob watch, a rare ladies powder box etc and the usual plenty of trash, This particular park is next to factories and near them only had to turn sensitivity down one notch/line, rest of park full sensitivity, no problems, great depth. As with Maryborough i have a friend who uses a SD2000, went out with him for 2hours for gold, can be used side by side (5-10 metre's away) he found nothing at this spot of bush apart from a nail and large bolt, i found 2 bullets and an old miners belt buckle and button with no interference at all from ground noise in very high mineralised ground. In Castlemaine i was only driving through, spent 1 hour in bush near a working mine, no good finds but 2 times on this particular spot it beeped falsely, but running the detector over again it automatically cancelled the interference out, impressed,To say i am not happy with the detector and my finds is a understatement. On a final note i like this detector for its quiteness and minimal interference and the bottom line is it really works as stated by others.
George......

ps: wanting to discuss mods, larger coils etc.........

how much junk did you dig up to get those finds? No one every mentions that when metal detecting. Its like a gambler who tells you how much money they win but can never tell you how much they have lost. I'm not going to get into a debate here but its a fact that certain machines have limitations and if at the end of the day you are happy with the detector you are using for the price you have paid then so be it, after all its all about having fun............right! :smoke:
Cheers!

To be quite honest I've never held, let alone used a gold snoop only read the articles and watched the bit on the DVD. About the only thing I can say would be that the T4 has a few more features that will aid the user in the field. I would be willing to do a proper field test for comparison side by side if there is anyone in Brisbane who owns a GS. On the beach, goldfield, parks and any other application that would be deemed fair. I honestly think that with my regular settings the T4 would go deeper than the GS. Even if it's only an inch or so, thats the difference between leaving a $5,000 ring in the ground and putting a substantial investment in the family safety deposit box. The big plus on the side of the T4, is that you can upsize the coil to the 10" and gain around 20% to 25% extra depth! Thats a fact, I've already proven this by testing both my T4's on the same target, 1 with the 8" coil and 1 with the 10" coil. Then swapped coils to the opposite units and tested again. You can also fit and use the 4" coil for tight places, and small (1/2 gram) nuggets. There are benefits to using the T4 as I think you would agree, as apposed to the Gold Snoop. The price difference is minimal, so all in all I think the T4 is better value for money. I am willing to stand corrected, and I'm serious about the field test if anyones up for it!:twodetecting:

Hi peter-d, The only tesoro's I've used and owned are the Dingo, and the Lobo. I found these to handle the ground here pretty well. Hope some one else can help you out on that one peter. Live your dreams! HH regards Nugget.:detecting:

G'day Peter.
I have helped a fellow out with a detector that is the same model as the gold snoop. If you own one, just use it at the beach on dry sand only. Buy it from K-Mart or similar for $89. For gold hunting, the tracker 4 is a better bet, but not designed for gold hunting. You need a detector with a ground tracking circuit and higher frequency coil than you would normally use for coin hunting. A Lobo, an X-Terra70 with the 5x10 coil on it, a Eureaka Gold or earlier version of it, or an Infinum would be a better choice . Even an SD 1200 or 2200 would be good. It just come down to your budget and preference of what you want to do with a detector that will be your best guide to choose for yourself.
Good luck.
Mick Evans.
PS. There is a post on the X-Terra forum (Findmall) by Nero Design (I think that that's what he calls himself) where he went out to the Sofala area with a fellow who took the Goldsnoop with him. He didn't fair very well. it's on the front page. Easy to find.

Hi everyone, just want to clarify some questions, the detector Robert is using in the X-Terra (findmall) forum by Nero Design seems to be the model md3030 which has a lcd display with notch facility (Note the big control box and fiberglass bottom half stem in the picture). As far as i am aware Kmart has been selling model md/gc1023 known as goldsnoop and model md/gc3030. Speaking of the md3030, a friend of mine bought one a month ago as it was the only one Kmart had at the time. I have used and tested it side by side with my md1023 (goldsnoop). I found the md3030 has way less sensitivity than mine and yes it does register on the lcd display when detecting as being a bad target even though you know its not, like waving a coin under the coil, it keeps changing target indication with each sweep. I dont know if it is faulty or its designed that way, im not happy with that model myself.
How much trash did i pick up? like i stated - plenty- due to a few reasons. first is i am new with this detector and trying to learn the various sounds made in normal mode, discriminitive mode and dual tone mode, but the reason that made me use it with minimal discrimination, therefore collected more junk was due to my initial find of those military bullets. i did not want to loose targets and was curious to see what was underground as my extensive reasearch of this park revealed 50% of it was swampland and later covered up in 1918, also Germans have lived in this area since the 1850's goldrush. I obtained a map of the area ca1897 which shows the swamp boundary, the bullets were found right on the edge at the base of a tree. In discrimination mode i have noticed i cannot discriminate pull tabs without loosing goodies but does very well on small iron bits, nails and metal bottle tops with hardly noticeable loss in depth.
The detector model md1023 gs is supplied with a 8" coil and does have upgrade coils of 8.5" and 12" which i found doing a web search, but i guess to purchase will be direct from manufacturer at this stage. Detection depths is as stated by JL in his advertisement being 23 cm for 1 dollar coin and 30 cm for 50 cents.
Like you said nugget71, its all about having fun and as long as good targets pop up with the bad ones it keeps us all happy. Interesting to note : found a old lead sinker at this park quite deep,...... must have been fish in the swamp!....

cheers all George.

I don't have an intimate know of the gold snoop, so I can't give you much information I'm afraid. There is an excellent technical post at the bottom of this thread.
I would say the the LCD is faulty, given what you have described. It may in part being that the components in the detector, may be of a poorer quality, and as such, more susceptible to faults.
Sorry I can't help you any more than that. Take it back for an exchange would probably be the best solution.
Mick Evans.

Yes they will .. and also depends on whether you have a good one or not, as there is no quality control with the chinese manufactures. I have 2 units and you can not swap coils with the other as in my case you will loose sensitivity.
PS also have had mine modded
cheers all
