Got an adrenaline rush finding 1/2 then the other 1/2 of the purse frame. Sadly nothing else there! Damn, not like "as seen on TV"! No coins!!! So I kept walking in the woods turning up old pre-pull tab and newer beer cans . finally a solid high tone - quarter or better at 2-3". I kept my Lesche in its sheath and did the hole entirely with my hands as the soil was sandy, loamy and surrounded by pine trees. Ja-ooose in da hole! I did a happy dance, always a huge lift when I pull a walker from the earth. I was swinging my V3i sporting a 12"x10" SEF. The staining and lines on the silver are common in that environment, that line to the right of liberty was there too. I don't rub or field clean silver coins.

Good morning Mud. Thanks - I've been looking forward to finding another walker. Went back to that wooded area yesterday and found a dateless SL quarter. My ring is actually a chest deep salt water find that I had resized when I got married 2/14/12. The only markings inside are W14K and its a comfort fit.

looks good!

I've been strongly considering the v3i, so trying to watch who is finding what with it...tnx!

I've had my V3i almost 2 years now after using owning several top Whites models since 1986. I think it's the best one yet. If you decide on either V model take your time learning it and ask questions. Also remember no matter how well set up you have it and understand it it requires a slower pace than the old Eagles, XLT's & even the DFX.

...I am 'on the fence' between v3i and ET; at one moment loving all the adjustability, and the other aprehensive to make the right choice with regard to performance.

I'm in NNJ, and the soil is mineralized/iron rich (several 1700's mines/forges in immediate area)

I'm a 'newb' for 6mos w/ atp, and enjoying detecting, and want to try a better unit.
...while at the same time, wondering if I should be 'happy with what I have'

seems some of the very expirienced guys that have had the v3i eventually moved off to the ET.

Hold on to that ATPro, it's a great detector and I take that & the V3i when I'm out for a long day of detecting. Don't put too much stock in people's migration from one detector to another, we can be a fickle bunch, always thinking a different detector can give us an edge. In reality it is the operators ability to understand his unit and of course you have to dig. You may want to use that ATP in iron audio at the ferrous infested sites in addition to whatever "new" detector you decide on. There is a detectorists - Neil in West Jersey who may be of help to you and he's done some good videos. I did consider the ETrac and even the CTX3030 when that was released but decided to buy and stay with my V3i. I have 2 Minelabs, the Sov GT & Excalibur 2, such different animals than any Whites. I'm not sure I like the display on the Minelabs with visual target info. I totally get the ferrous and conductive readout concept but definitely don't like the ergonomics of the ETrac and the CTX is better. This could be a lengthy subject. My advice is for now, keep swinging the ATP until you get a chance to try someone's V or ETrac for test spin. I also forgot to mention our soil here is iron mineralized too.
