IYHO in FL what is the best coil for the EXCALIBUR

I Dig Ya Dig

New member
Looking for a aftermarket coil and was wondering what the hunters in FL thought is the best coil for the beaches and water?

n/t

its too hard to pinpoint the big coils under water and the resistance swinging the bigger coils under water is very hard..the S12 weight is less than the stock 10" coil ...deeper and more coverage.but in the water i like the smaller coils like the S8. easy to swing and light weight.

Wish everyone down here in FL thought that way!!!

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHHA.......WOT DID YOU SAY ? ..... Good answer, good answer !!.....Jim

hi Erikk ,
were do you find the hot spot is on the wot ? I have heard that same comment many times regarding pinpointing , I am considering doing that mod myself on my spare Mk1 scally.
regards Tony Weston :ukflag:

Yes Erikk
I do, it was a loaded question. I remember that same picture. I also meant to respond to you on the Sanibel sanded in comment. Have you gone to the lighthouse?
If you have a boat, locals park boats on a few islands around there. They show promise and I need help cleaning a lot of trash out. Found a silver bracelet last weekend and tons of change.

B very careful which out islands U go to hunt. Usepa, Caya Costa & a couple of others are off limits U get caught on or near CC Or pelican bay & U lose it al I go to the light house from time to time but not often It is really sanded in and the can slaw & trash are bit overbearing Just like the "Landfill" FMB!

I have both and the WOT IS deeper than the S-12 in the dirt. Don't know about the water but stands to reason 15 VS 12 Never saw the need to consider the s-12 for the water. Only bought it for the Explorer 2 for comp hunts where WOT was not allowed. (WONDER WHY THAT WAS???)
Pinpointing with the WOT or any other coil in the water is pretty straight forward. I have a BIG SCOOP. I get the signal, pull it back till is disappears, put my foot in back of coil and scoop in front of foot. I use the large sunspot or the Mike from MI and each will take a bite of about 10 inches to a foot in one shot-U keep going deeper till it is in your scoop. With much practice you can tell the difference between can slaw and a nickel/gold ring (I have a nickel glued to the inside toe of all of my boots)
IMHO the whole coil is a "Sweet Spot" and with the WOT the coil will radiate outside the edges so it gives you a better chance to catch a tone and zero in on the target. I have been doing it so long that I don't even think about it-just dig

I only go to the islands that boats stop at and have checked with the sheriff to make sure its ok. I had a guy from a tow boat company tell me that just north of the bridge is a ship wreck and nobody knows the date, but he claims its a old one. I have yet to explore it but I'm told that a mast or some kind of object protrudes from the water a low tide.

I went to FMB today and you're right I'm thinking of starting a scrap metal business. The pull tabs and cans are killing me. I did pull some change out and talked with a guy that got 2 cheap rings. He also had a pocket full of change.

The light house i want to try some more seems to me that the tide rips in that area. I'm thinking it should bring targets to the surface. Last time i was there I didn't dig as much crap as I do on FMB.

Trust me I'm getting more practice then i want.

Not to get off subject, but I've hunted both Sanibel and Captiva for the past 10 years or so while on vacation. My only real good find came two years ago in June when a few days of heavy wind/surf created a four foot cut along Captiva. I got a real nice diamond ring and lots of coins during a wild thunderstorm (not smart). I felt like I was hunting a winter nor'easter in Jersey. Back to subject, I have a 10" tornado on my Excal but plan to go with the S-12 when my warranty expires.

Correct, when that cut opens up it is like going to the bank. Only problem is that it doesn't happen very often

Ya, they really screwed it up when they dredged the pass. Can U believe that I used to hunt that beach with my Infinium PI (Before I got the WOT installed on the excal) Gotta wait now till all the young guys hunt it and clean up all the trash!!

I'm cleaning that beach one scrap at a time. Saving up for a 747, or an Airbus A320. Think I'm only a few hunts away from hitting my goal.

The cut you're talking about, is that the north end of Captiva or at the bridge from Sanibel to Captiva?

Any other places locally you can think of to hunt. Thinking of hitting downtown area soon. I just heard that some of the old time houses were moved or torn down. I'm sure someone will run me off, so its still a maybe. If its a public places what are the rules? If its a private i was thinking of looking up who pays taxes on the lot and sending them a letter asking permission.
