This site and message board has really Helped me in my hunting.....Its weird through I hear about people finding wheat pennies a lot. Ive found about 100 pennies thus far but not one wheat penny...is this normal ? THE NEXT DIG WILL BE IT !!

:usaflag:Location is everything. Do some research and concentrate on older areas. My first wheatie was found in front of my next door neighbors house, which is around 100 years old.

Most of the Wheaties we've found around here have been dug from camping areas that have been in use for at least the last 60 years. At one old farm site a buddy and I hit we pulled up 3 Indian heads.

You keep it up and you will find some,,and soon your goal will NOT be a wheat penny ,,but maybe a flying eagle penny. Them wheats can show up about anywhere.

You should know someone that has a old house ,(family ,friends) try to get permision to detect them. After years of hunting the leads get harder to find something like that. Once found ,the odds are in your favor to find old coins.

With only 100 pennies found, you've probably got a long ways to go till you hit one most likely. As others said, it's all about location. You can't find them if they never had a chance to be there!!

I'm about two months into this new hobby and just found my first wheatie. It is a 1944, my birth year. I actually found an indian head in the same park several weeks ago.
The dealer I purchased my gear from says that parks get "pounded" by metal detectors and that I should ask to search on older private property.
Yesterday I stopped at a older church that has a large field behind it. The field has been used by scouts as well as a summer christian concert venue for many years.
It was difficult for me to ask to hunt the area but I figured nothing ventured nothing gained. I talked to the pastor and after explaining how I can dig a small hole and replace the sod flap so
that you can hardly tell where the hole was, He gave me permission. He asked that I tell him when I will be detecting so he can tell other church members that see me, what I am doing.
I don't think this field has been hunted before and I am anxious to get over there and start detecting.

You will find a Wheat penny Mr Andrew, and after 100 other pennys, your time is close for the Wheaty. Keep a look at the dates of your coins U R finding round the areas U R hunting (Say a dime , nick, quarter) . If the dates of the other coins U dig are 1970's, 60's, theres a good chance U can find your elusive wheat . But who knows? You might take a break from hunting after a couple of hours and sit down at a picknik table and stair at the ground and BOOM theres a wheat penny on the surface , LOLoud. . Good luck and I hope it's a 1943 copper.

Patience & don't give up. They come and go - some months it seems grim and other times a wheat or so often. Areas, depth etc, but they will come.
When you do find an area that starts producing wheat's, slow down and work it. Finding wheat's is a like a date stamp for me for other/better finds. I don't pass up any penny's.
