I've ordered a TRX pinpointer

I needed something that would match my Uniprobes, and the TRX seemed to be the only one that would come close.

Question.....is there a place where all the instructions for operating the probe are on paper?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

I suppose you could print this out and it would be on paper....

Some additional info:

TRX instructions for configuration adjustment (sensitivity and audio frequency)
There is a sensitivity control on the TRX. Here are the general settings for sensitivity - the default is 3. Intended to be about 3.5". Sensitivity 1 = Bullseye II depth (about 1"), sensitivity 2 = Green pinpointer depth (about 2"), sensitivity 4 = around 4-4.5" - and it is likely to false on this setting, but some areas may be able to use it. It's not in the manual obviously. But here is how to get there:
First option:
1) Go into config (press and hold the button through the power down beep until you get to the taDAH beep for config).
2) Release and repress the button. Hold the button for 5 seconds. The indicators will indicate your sensitivity setting. The first set of beeps will indicate your current sensitivity setting (you should hear 3 beeps for the default sensitivity being 3). The next set of beeps will be the next one (4 beeps for sens 4), the next will be the next one (wrap around to 1 beep for sens 1). Release the button at the sensitivity level you want to be at. Might help you out in the tot lots.

-OR-

If you find yourself wanting to change sensitivity more than once and you want it on the "main menu" without that 5 second delay, there is a test mode which all it does is move the "menus" around.
1) Go to config mode
2) Release the button and then press and release 3 times.
3) Wait for config exit - you should get a dadadaDAH jingle.
Now your menus are switched around unless you do a factory reset (more later)
4) Go to config mode
5) Keep holding the button down - the sensitivity is the first menu rather than the indicators. release the button when you get to the sensitivity you want.

In this mode, the first menu is sensitivity. 2nd menu (release button after config and press and hold) is the indicator adjust. 3rd menu (release button after config, press and release once and then press and hold) is audio adjust. This adjusts the frequency of your audio - so if you hear a lower frequency better than the one that the pinpointer is set to, you can find one that might be better. It has a very limited range, so it's possible that there won't be any difference.

If you want to put it back to the menu system that it came with, you can do a factory reset. This will reset everything - except the audio frequency - back to how it came from the factory. Go to config, release and press the button 6 times.

Reset:

With unit turned on:

1. Press and hold through power down

Thanks Larry.

Works flawlessly and is exactly want I was wanting. A nice peice of kit as they would say on the other side of the pond.

Bought it from Larry at NWI Detectors by the way....ordered it one day, and it was in my mailbox two days later.

What I really liked was that my requirement to be able to detect a dime at two inches didn't require any special adjustments. The TRX did that right out of the box.

All that was required to complete the setup to my preferences was to set it to vibrate only and I was good to go.

Very pleased.

you may want to try out the sound as well, when pinpointing deep targets the sound is much better and the proximity function is much easier to hear. You can always put your thumb over the spot where the sound come out if you want to quiet it.. I normally us sound only and on a few hunts I used vibrate only since it was early in the morning and I was across the street from houses that had windows open. I was rather disappointed with vibrate only.. could not feel the deep stuff that is a slow beep when using sound.
Good luck and enjoy your new tool!

Sounds like a nice piece of kit  :ukflag:

See! I knew they talked like that over yonder! Thanks Mega B.:usaflag:

And don't forget the ability to detune when you get close.

Posted a review on another site the other day (not published yet) and included some pic so the TRX with the guts out.. I am sure they won't make it to the review so I will be posting them in TRX thread around the net.. Not as meaningful without the Review.. but here they are..

Guts.. I should take a pic of the other side where more of the components are. Things of interest are the board mounted micro switch under that plastic piece above the 41, peizo speaker a the bottom of the round cylinder and the LED at the end of the board above the scew

If it had the option to run side detection or factory setting, and was louder, plus a brighter light...it would be perfect. It still beats all others I've tested.

[size=large]I have to wonder if the led light could be replaced with a brighter one. I've been caught in the evening needing a brighter light. The factory one doesn't do the job.
Also should be noted there is a learning curve. Not sure if it's learning me or I'm learning it. This pp is really differant.

LED is not so bright but it is mounted on the board and shooting through a clear plastic lens so that is part of the issue which is done for water tightness and shell replacement. Not so loud cause the 1/8" hole is sealed for water tightness, unlike the PP that requires electrical tape to be put over the hole to keep the dirt out.. also floats, is waterproof in shallow water, can be dropped many times on concrete, does not need the battery shimed to work and you can push it into the ground without any false signals.. I can live with a dim light, weak vibrate motor and not obnoxiously loud.. Oh and then there is that 3-4" dept.. Never saw a need for side detection.. seems like it would be more confusing since you are trying to pin point using the point..

Hi all,

I too just purchased one this afternoon because I originally brought my 1.5yrs old Garrett pointer in to get repaired(because it was sounding off all the time)and thought it was under warranty(2yrs?)and the store told me that Garrett changed there warranty policy back to 1yr, so I was hooped. Because I use a White's M6 and the Garrett would sound off even using that machine I read so many good reviews about the TRX, I purchased one. Just one question though where I live I never have to GB my detector before using it because the ground conditions are not heavily mineralized, do I have to GB the TRX every-time I turn it on???

Thx..

You will know, it will chirp all the time if it needs to be GB. Some sites I don't have to, other I do. For me seems to be more EMI than the ground but not sure. Also, it will pick up big thing from a VERY long distance so keep that in mind.. i.e. will pick up your MD if pointed at it's metal parts from a foot of more.. making it chat.
