Ive had the Ace 250 about a month now, I love it

OK, Im new to this site. I must tell you after about 20 years Ive upgraded to the Ace 250.I had a expensive machine before, but I imagine with the upgrades in technology, like everthing else, they can pack more into a small package. Im in my mid fities and have had some neck and shoulder problems, I was drawn to this product partially due to its advertised wieght. I can loose track of time these days swinging that thing. My mid night stingy and numb hands are gone now. Its amazing. Stay tuned, for my comments. As a musician, reknowned for his ear playing I can tell you Garrett absolutely develops their bell tones for a reason. I know I could definately always trust my old Garrett on pennies, it was just awesome for that. As you who have been using them know, there is a definate "clang" to a coin hit, its like its dropping into a can or a piggy bank, Add some silver content and your blood pressures goes up -their is a "high end" brightness to that bell, you might not be able to discribe in technical terms, along with the very clean clang, when faretting out a silver coin-that where the excitement is. If you guys know what I mean there is that heart skip. I know I have been more selective with my sites in the last year, but in the last 2 and half months, using the Ace 250, I have had a lot of first. I am going to give you the rest of my review in the upcoming months. I have been using it probably 20-30 hours a week. I will give you my ideas on pinpointing, foil sounds, to dig or not to dig deciesion making and more, By the way after using for years now for real, I kid you not, a toy metal detector with the handle cut off for locating in hole, etc I am going to get soon a Pin Pointer. I will say that old toy really did serve me well. For the price of the 250 and the Pinpointer I think- I am making out perhaps better than buying a much more exspensive machine. thanks, Osgood

I'm happy that you're happy, but this is a Tesoro forum, not a Garrett forum.

So BarberBill, think I should go to the Garrett Forum and tell them how much I enjoyed the Silver UMax,and how ,in an hour, the Vaquero really amazed me..Me thinks the lad figures if it is good, then it must be a Tesoro, even with another name.Your opinion on the matter,,,,cordially NAD.

Just thought maybe he was lost or confused. LOL

I thought the Ace was pretty good, too. It wasn't all THAT, however, and in fact, could be a little whacky. I don't know what they were they thinking at Garrett when they stuck the phone jack on the offside rear.
That Ace is a $200 entry level detector and to be honest, it acts like one. Charles Garret wanted to pack as many features into a $200 package as he could. He succeeded.
But, I also found myself wondering what sort of "high tech" detectors others are using, when they feel the Ace 250 "beats 'em all." I have some of those supposedly "lacking" big dollar models and have used more detectors over the years than I can count. Most of them put the Ace in it's place.
The detector I personally went for most often?

A Tesoro Golden.

I suspect the original poster was trying to stir up some dust.

Yeah, and since this was "accidentally" posted, I have the Ace and the Silver and sometimes wish I had the Golden since, in some places, I like to rely on the ID of the Ace. Any thoughts on the Golden vs. the Ace would be appreciated. I also considered the Deleon, but it doesn't have the notch feature. Thanks.

I added a DeLeon to my arsenal the first of September and like it very much. Don't personally care for "notch" discrimination, would rather set the knob to exactly where I want it and with the ID you have visual confirmation right along - allowing for the fact that it''s a machine's best guess of course. Any how I'm really enjoying the Deleon.

I just have to put in my two and 1/2 cents - I have owned two Ace 250's, the first one I didn't like the second one was even worse. The most over rated detector ever, period. I am happy for the folks that like them, I can't handle that nasty bell tone and the delayed responce of the Ace. Like I said on another forum - I do like the looks of the Ace, if I had a fireplace I would place one on the mantle but I wouldn't ever take it down & use it. I will put up a Silver uMax against the Ace any day. Giv'me my Tesoro's I love em!!! Steve.

Ok Folks, to straightened it all out, I wasnt trying to stir controversy, I simply wasnt aware I was posting to the Tesoro Forum, and did mean to post it to the Garrett site. Thanks again, happy hunting, Osgood.

We will show no mercy
I believe he is telling the truth, only 3 post he is a newby. Us Tesoro users are kind forgiving folks, hmm aren't we ;)??? Steve.

I been detecting a good bit over 20 years, won't be long and it will be 30. I also picked up an ACE 250 last year, but it was intended for the wife. Well she didn't try it so I did as it was just sitting there for about 6 months. I also added the 4.5 sniper coil. Anyway I can't see it as an upgrade at all. I had mostly used an older Whites - 6000 Di Pro - it had the analog meter, among several other machines. But that stupid digital generated bell tone on the ACE sucks. Yes - sucks. No character like analog audio. Now don't get me all wrong, it has a load of features for it price point and I still think it can make a good starter or backup machine for the right person, so I wouldn't give it bad ratings, just it is not for me. I actually still have the ACE and may again play with it, but it's currently for tag along folks who don't have a machine or want to try the ACE. Actually if I was real disappointed in the ACE, it would have already been destroyed and trashed.
Now I would have never came here on the Tesoro side (and I am a Tesoro fan - big time) and mentioned the ACE as a machine to consider - in fact I would have not mentioned the ACE - well I blew it now didn't I:blink:
I don't like to mention what I think is negative about a machine - but I don't mind reading other negative post. I do like to read the positives, but it needs to posted where it belongs.
So yup I have an ACE, and Tesoro's, and Minelab, and Fisher, and White's. Until now I believe I only posted Tesoro here in this section where it belongs. And yes I have mentioned some good points on the ACE, elsewhere, although IMO the ACE is not me - so I think it sucks (for me) but fine for those who like it. Heck, I don't tell people "don't get an ACE" unless I think something better fits their needs, I have told some to go ahead and get it because it was the type of features they were looking for.
Wrong place/wrong time - not trying to bash you - but I would have immediately edit to change a good bit. Oh, and I do at times go over there and read up on the nice things folks post regarding the ACE 250.
Well long bad day and bad timing on me or I wouldn't have replied - so anyone want to rip on me - your welcome to go for it. Something to gain from good & bad :poke:
I just can't be convinced (now now anyway) that the digital bell tone is the cats meow.
Added - just read all the remaining replies - alrighty then:thumbup:

Howdy tab-nabbit
I ain't going ta rip ya, it was a good read.
I actually recommended the ace 250 to my brother n law way back when they were introduced. His cheapo Radar Shack died on him and he was wanting the most features for the the lowest bucks, so I told him about the ace. He knew I was using a high dollar White's DFX at the time and actually trusted my advice, which is kinda sad because the DFX sucked too! Any how, after he got his ace, I went over to his crib to check it out. He showed me how it operated and all, then I went to swinging it in his yard. Man alive what a racket, it would go Bing Bong then go Bong Bing in the return swing, I continued on like a trooper, swing this way Bong, that way Bing. I tell ya it was hard to take, so I turned the machine off, handed the ace back to him and said" nice detector". To this day he still likes the ace, so more power to him.Later.........Hombre

I bong, started off bong, bong with a 250 bong, bong, and if weren,t bing, bing for that unit, I bong, bing would never have bong, looked towards Tesoro, bing for help. So thanks Garrett :super:

But it was after I found Tesoro.

I was use to the fast response and the discriptive tone.

The 250 was so slow and the tones were so digetal.

it was giving me a complex.

That satisfied my curiosity about the machine.

I don't like to bash machines.

But I would not take the time to learn the 250.

I don't mean to say that it is not a decent machine for

the right person. I'm just not that person.:tesoro:

Too bad that you voice negative opinions on other detectors as I think Tesoros are a great detector and considered getting one but ended buying a MXT.
I always wanted to own a Cadillac.:poke:
