hello all, olddigger invited me to one of his spots this morning. we hadn't been there two minutes and he pulled an 1830 dime out of the ground! it's in vg - 8 condition. oh my gawd, i thought, i'll never be able to come close to that! i was real happy for him, but knew i had to catch up, and that it would be hard to do. we moved around a bit, going deeper into the woods looking for the old homesite that had been forgotten. we visited a trashy old homesite that had burned down, but knew that it wasn't it. so we went back to where we started.
this time, we started looking just east of our starting point. i found a 1919 wheat cent right away, then got a rather weak signal. i dug down 8" and recovered this nice virginia coat sized confederate button! there are no back marks, but the shank is straight and strong. i didn't know what i had found at the time, waiting until i could get home and clean it up. i think it might be a low convex virginia local.
i also found a small shoe buckle and a small rivet/button. the boot cleat followed soon after. i found the three bullets on a hunt friday, along with the railroad cent and clad change. the bell shaped brass piece is a mystery to me tho, it's broken off on one end. so you can say i'm one happy hunter today! olddigger found a bunch of stuff too, but i'll leave it to him to post it.
i'm sure there's plenty more out there, and hope to return soon. thanks, olddigger, for a great day, and a great find. thanks for reading, and hh,

Really nice finds Sir
