I've got Friends in High Places

Been eying up this place in town where there's old steps and foundation. House must have been torn down a couple years ago because street view google shows an old house there in 2011. I drove up there and asked the neighbor who owned it and the person he named was our state senator. Well okay I vaguely know him because he used to own a trucking company and helped me air up my tires once. I looked up his number and called his office in Charleston and asked his executive assistant to ask him if I could metal detect on his vacant lot. Today I got a call back to go ahead and do it. YA HOO! If lucky tomorrow i'll post some pictures of finds if not, i'll have a good time anyway.

Just kidding about friends in high places, just can't believe I called an uppity up and got a yes. Can't wait till tomorrow. Got from daylight till 10 oclock because it is supposed to start raining at 10 and rain all day. Going to use my Minelab 704 because it's more familiar and then will use the dius later on to search more thoroughly.

Good luck,

From Ron also in WV

There are some good spots in WV. I have been privileged to hunt three different spots and dug 3 silvers out of one and four silvers out of a second. the third one was a dud. But it is a 500 mile drive for me to get to WV. Good luck on that property.

Hey pplinker,

Hats off to you for getting that permission! Sounds like it has good possibilities. Hopefully not giving up on it will payoff for you.

Finding good (undetected) locations to hunt, is more of a hurdle nowadays than anything in our hobby. Hopefully you've scored one of those spots!

Good Luck!

No pictures, didn't find much. But it was interesting. The place has to be old, I found a couple of those old zinc canning lids around the cellar. Oddly, there was very few pull tabs or bottle tops Found several zinc pennies on the lower side of the steps. The grass was too high to detect a lot of the area. Don't know if it'd be worth going back with a weedeater. Maybe another day.

This silver is getting harder and harder to find here in WV now days. This year I've got only three silver coins, I would estimate the total hours I've hunted is around 60 hours. Good thing I'm addicted to this hobby, any normal thinking person would call it quits. Like the saying goes the real treasure is in the hunt not what you find.

That must be what a gambler feels like. Always hopeful the next roll of the dice or the next swing of the detector will pay off big and you just can't quit. But unlike gambling, this is pretty harmless.

You also got to figure if you hunt homesites some of them didn't have silver to lose. Three silvers sounds good to me.
