I've been watching this one field...

Even though it's now a farm field, it is the corner where the outdoor movie theater used to be. I've been watching all summer, waiting for the harvest but it's in soybeans and they are STILL there. Well, maybe next year.

After the crops have been taken off you should be able to use Google Earth or Mapquest satellite images to see the layout. I have had good luck using that method with old farm locations that are now part of a big field. Nice thing about it is each time they plow the ground you can go back looking for more stuff.

Good luck

Old drive ins are great. There will be lots of trash to deal with but what I find is the gound usually so compacted that nothing migrates too deep. Now if its been plowed up and turned by a farmer that could be a different story.

I have to talk to the owner but as I recall, the parking areas of those places were hard packed gravel. That means that before it can be farmed, they probably removed the top 4 to 6 inches to get down to actual soil. That would make a big difference in the sites desirability. And all that would have been done many years ago. I still plan to check it out though. You never know.
