I've been pounding Jacksonville beaches,,, no joy!

I have been dry sand detecting and wet sand detecting the beaches here in Jacksonville, and really have found very little. One gold ring and one silver ring in the last 2 months. How about you guys in Florida or where ever? Has it been lean pickins so far. I realize it is the beginning of the season. I find a few coins each time but very little jewelery. Maybe I am too anxious for full blown summer down here! EZ

We are experiencing the same problem here in Virginia Beach. Plus we have a lot of fill sand that has not moved in a while.

the sand did not move around much at Jax beaches, no good northeasters or bad storms. Seems to be sanded in. I have not even found much junk.
Feel good because you found some rings, nobody seem to be finding much yet. Its early yet

I have hit miles and miles of beaches here in the Bay area from Sarasota to Clearwater in the water out of the water, i hit a super low tide late last night with my Whites PI machine and dug junk all night. Between the high increase of new detectorist and our wonderful econamy no one is dropping anything or has anything to drop. I have found a few rings this season and a small amount of silver, i quit posting my finds a while ago, after speaking to a whole family with detectors on the beach one day they told me before they started this new hobby they researched the internet and found a forum called Finds they said after seeing all those Gold rings posted they decided to start detecting for extra money. Little did they know. A couple years ago there was a long thread started on here about posting our finds, i think it was Clive that started it, mabey he was on to something, anyhow nothing going on down south.

EZ, remember "the meek shall inherit the earth...." possibly you're not being meek? ( can't be meek if you're pounding)

Hey Ron Boy, what does an unemployed hot air mover know about being "meek"?
You get down here in July, and I will show you how it is done. We can sit on a beach cafe and have a few umbrella drinks and wait for the tide to go out. EZ

A month and a half of beach and water detecting in Florida and all I found was a little bit of clad and one silver navel pin. The pickings have been slim to none and so I am moving on to other areas to hunt. Going to concentrate on out of the way beaches and old gold and silver drops from generations past. No more modern drops for me.

I've said this in the past that the price of gold and silver has taken jewelry out of the wear it to the beach scenario to the sell it at the pawn shop scenario . They might as well sell it rather than have someone with a metal detector find it and do the same thing.

With the price of gasoline, fewer people will be at the beaches and those that are will not be wearing gold....they sold it already,

Soooo true Finders.... You hit the nail on the head. :yo:

I went out today for about an hour of wet sand sweeping ... found 1 matchbox car. I took out the mxt to a new tot park and hit 5 bucks in clad, a 60mm bronze medallion of the Pope worth about $25, 3 more matchbox cars and a 1944 P nickel. I enjoyed that hunt and did not have to walk 4 miles to grab the gas money. When the pickins are lousy on the beach I retreat to the parks and elementary schools to find the easy targets so as not to get too discouraged. Water temp is about 70-72 degrees.

Hi Easy Swing
I'll say this: For sure there is a drop in the number of recent stuff to be found. However, at my local FRESHWATER beach, we find stuff from the 1890 and earlier. Just covering ground does not always do much now--there is more of an emphasis upon understanding grades, strata, edge patterns, the way that sand is exchanged at the edge, tides, and all of those site factors which allow you to reach beyond last week. I've had great results covering ground but now observation is more important--where is stuff currently being found? What kinds of targets are coming up--light or heavy? Are there any coins as would indicate that the material that is in close to shore started off there? Even up here in Canada we deal with lousy spring conditions and it takes a lot of study to see when there is some opeing up and access to the deeper strata. No-one is ever going to convince me that the Florida coast is worked out. Just keep at it--range around to different areas and I'm sure some changes will open things up.

Hi All, Florida is probably the heaviest detected state in US. There are triple the amount of people buying and Md today as probably 2 years ago.The internet and people posting gold rings has been good info and a curse.Newbies starting out today are buying the best machines money can buy thanks to the internet sites. When you see 8 people working the same beaches every other day what do you expect? You just have to rely on wind direction and wave height to erode the beach for targets to appear again. Good Luck! Walter

You guys are all correct both in the amount of new detectorists on the beach. Another problem here is the lack of real sand/cuts. No storms or noreasters here at least in Jacksonville. Water temp is about 72 degrees, when temp gets to 80 then people will go into the water. For the most part, people are sunbathing and not swimming yet. Things will pick up after memorial day. EZ

Ok, after re-reading I had to wonder.
What exactly is a navel pin ????
Military or belly button ???

Thanks find's keeper...withe the apparent misspellings I see every day online...It struck me that I was unsure which target was found..Thanks for the clarification.

Here's a photo of the Navel ring...I guess it fits in a hole that is made above the navel. Kind of weird if you ask me. It is silver. Had it tested. Only thing worth while that I found in a little over a month in Florida on the beaches.
