I've been asked to find a cremation box

gear box

New member
The box is made of brass and is about 18 inches deep. There was a mix up at a cemetary where the wifes grave was moved a few feet and the husband was buried a few feet from her, they wanted to be buried beside each other. The person who asked me to look for the box used a probe and couldn't locate the box. My question is will my GT with a 10 inch tornado find the box at 18 inches deep? The box is about 8x8 inches at least that was the guy's hand gestures but i'm not sure. The ground should be clean from junk. I'm thinking 0 disc. sens at 10 or 11. What do you think?
Thanks Gearbox

gearbox , put the GT in pinpont all metal and sweep close to the ground and listin for a slight rise in the threshold you should easy get it if you seen my vidio on the axehead thats the kind of sound you are looking for

I am going with Gunnar on this. Best of luck and hope you find it. Keep us posted - Jim

Actually, I have a jar of coins 4" dia. buried 18" deep (to the top) in my yard and can detect it with the 10" tornado coil easy in all-metal. A brass box that size should sing out loudly in all-metal.

thanks everyone. I'm gonna go in all metal first and if I get a good signal like ISM said he get's on the jar of coin's it should be a pretty fast recovery. If not I'll try Gunnar's approach. Neil, the person that asked me is on the cemetary board so the morality of using a metal detector in a cemetary has been addressed. thanks for the reminder though. I won't be looking for a week or so but I'll keep you guy's posted.
Thanks Gary

Actually GB, Gunnar is right about method, settings and coil proximity to the earth. I was just confirming that you should be able to find it at that depth with no problem. I know where my cache is so that makes it much easier to find than a blind object. Good luck with your task.

Wetting the ground might give you a little more depth also if it's not a tremendously large area ......or go there after a good rain ....Jim

Don't water or wait for rain, ask you friend on the cemetary board to check when the sprinklers run!
