I've always wanted to find one of these...

and yesterday I finally found one. I was hoping for just a percussion cap hammer but instead I think I found a "flintlock hammer". Digging up all those iron nails finally paid off. The MXT gave a -65 iron range on this piece. This is the reason I dig all iron hits. This is my early Christmas present. Merry Christmas everyone!

Andrew,
That was something I had a hard time convincing myself to do. You may end up with a pouch full of square nails and iron but I found out that there are some pretty cool looking iron pieces to be found as well. It maybe wagon parts, gun parts, iron tools, even found a couple cool early American hatchets but if I found an old silver by the end of the day because of it, it was worth it all.

why you would do it. I may go towards digging iron as my good sites play out. I know there is some good stuff mixed in with the iron that I am missing. But right now with the sites I have there is no need to dig the iron. It's a time/effort vs reward thing for me.
