I've a got problem with my Excal.

The last few hunts I've noticed that when I exit the surf and hit the wet sand my Excal starts to false with each swing until the coil has shed most of the water on it. This lasts for about 30 seconds and then the unit is fine. I'm worried that I may have a leak in the coil connection. Has anyone else experienced this problem. My Excal is about 2 years old now and I'm thinking I should send it in for an overhaul.

Cheers,

BDA:cool:

then it would false for a while after I was on dry sand. This would go on for an hour before it would stabilize. Mine was new out of the box like that. I never realized it was a problem until I ran with Mike at Va Beach. My detector was relatively new so I sent it back and they sent me a new one.

bda, are you still using the coil cover, and if so, do you wash it out, after every hunt? If so, examine the bottom of the coil and see if there are any separations, between the epoxy and plastic shielding. Mine started to separate and it was warrantied. Lemme know, but it could be as you say, but that is the only coil issues, I have experienced. You MAY need a back-up mate! You will be down for quite a while, sending the unit in for warranty work.
