Was up into the 50's today and things are thawing well. Got out for about 3 hours this afternoon. Some areas still frozen solid but two areas I really wanted to hit get sun nearly all day and were diggable.
Took the modified Cibola out for it's shake down run. The one area that has hot rock gravel parking I can now ground balance to that area and I found a few coins and tabs. That area is workable with the standard coil now. The other area I wanted to test in I had pretty well cleaned with the Cibola (pre-mod) and my CZ but when I took the Tejon I started popping a lot of deep nickles. Today with the Cibola I pulled a couple of dimes and pennies out of the area but wasn't finding the deep nickles. I will need to take the Tejon back to that area and see what happens. I am pretty sure I left about a quarter of the area to cover last fall before it froze so I will just have to go back and see.
Now with the Cibola accurately ground balanced I can run the sensitivity pretty much maxed with little falsing. I used to get it just into the red band but not much further. In the hot rock area I had to back off just a little but was still in the red band. I can still turn the sensitivity way down and only go a couple of inches which I did for one side of the school that was still frozen solid about 2 inches down. That partly frozen area was the only place I found quarters today (3 of them).
The big plus for me today was that with the arm cuff on the detector raised up so it is now squarely behind my elbow, I am feeling no tightness in the elbow. First time in a long time I have finished a hunt and not felt like my elbow needed icing.
$2.01 in clad, one matchbox toy, one key, couple of copper pipe pieces, 41 tabs and assorted pieces of can slaw and other usual junk.
