Yeah! It really jumped up on us fast this year! I was thinking the same thing Elton, cant wait to see some of what CCH and the rest of the Southerners will be finding. Step it up a bit you guys!:clapping: We will try to hold our own, but this year is gonna be tough! That last warm snap over the weekend took out all the snow, the dirt froze solid, and now the snow is falling on top of it, so it will be sledding hill hunting or nothing for a while! I imagine the perfect set-up would be working these high latitudes in the Spring, Summer, Fall, and then getting out of here in Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar.

It is getting cold here in Indiana too. In a few more weeks my wife and I will be going back to the Philippines for the winter, Will be back the end of March. I hope I get some time to do a little detecting while their. We don't have a car. Most of the time it is public transportation. Some times we will rent a van to go visit family members up at Subic Bay. The old military base. Many beaches in the Philippines. God willing I will get out some. I will post some pictures of finds. Maybe even an banana tree... KEN

I agree Elton, it is 19 degrees with a wind chill of 6 degrees and it is just the middle of the afternoon right now. Sounds like Central Illinois will be in the deep freeze for the rest of the month. I made my final hunt of the year last week when it was 50 degrees out......... I was rewarded well for my efforts.

Well ole buddy, it isn't exactly balmy presently here in the Memphis area, either. Fortunately, a couple of days usually and most of us will be back out swinging. Some of us may even jump the gun when its still below freezing. It does, though, seem like winter hit a bit early and a little harder this year. Take care all, and be safe, what ever you do. I went to the beach today. Weather guesser said that it would be 78 this afternoon. I think he was a little bit conservative as it got just a tad bit warm this afternoon.

I debated where I would start today. Did I want to go where there were more donors or to the area where I had previously found quite a few dollars in clad. I have found very little in the area where most people visit. Too much competition from other folks. Had a lady work past me with a Garrett (Yellow). She wasnt interested in talking so I just kept swinging.

The donors area won out and I hit the beach. I was not finding anything but junk for the first couple of blocks up the beach when I got a Nickel tone on The Excal. It was LOUD so I thought shallow nickel. Took a shallow dip with the scoop, poured it out and spread it with my foot. I saw what appeared to be silver peeking out of the sand. My heart rate with up just a little bit. Picked up the target in the scoop and saw that I had a ring. I wiped the sand off and started looking for a hallmark. My heart rate went up just a little more when I saw 14K. 9.7 grams of 14K white gold made my day. I found it within 100 feet of where I found one early October.

Also found a Crucifix that I thought might be sterling but it turned out to be plated copper.

My take for the day was a bunch of junk, $2.10 in clad, 30 stinking lincolns/Zinclons. and the two already mentioned items.

The scenery was outstanding also. The bikinis were out in force. I am glad that I no longer live up in those areas where it gets so cold and so much snow. Enjoyed enough of that stuff as a youngster growing up in WV..

Hi Elton,, My wife is from the Philippines. WE have a house their. Been living their for 12 years now. I live about 2hours drive from any beach. They are so trashy. You just can not imagine how bad it is until you see it your self. The good stuff is there. A small coil is the best way to go on the beaches. Big open areas are much better where the war was. Around many of the old military bases are good too.. My main problem is that we don't have a vehicle. Some times we rent a van for a trip. Other than that it is public transportation. That is very crowded on them busses. And the drivers think they have to race with the other busses. So, I don't go to far... KEN

That underarm odor is reacting with your shirt....

There should be some good detecting on the old base if you are allowed to detect there. Heck you might even find some coins that I lost there back around 60-61. Earlier this year I found a silver coin from PI. Knew exactly what I had as soon as I got it in my hands and I have another one exactly like it that I brought back from PI.
