It's snowing and freezing. I believe the 2009 season will go out with a whimper.

Unless we get a warm up.......

Today is probably the last detecting day. Daytime temps barely above freezing for the next week or more.

I went out and tried a few places, including old faithfuls. Only four wheats to show for the effort. And it wasn't much fun. Cold fingers and toes.

Last week I took apart and fixed my explorer because of a backlight chatter problem. First time I had taken it apart since sending it in for service a couple of winters ago. The replacement parts definitely are better than the originals- (plastic housing, clamp assembly, etc- I had one of the original XSs).

But I cleaned it all up nice and shiny after putting it back together.

Then the next day I detecting in a plowed field in the rain. We will be cleaning again.

Things freezing up for rest of you?

Chris

get a really bad case of cabin fever :bouncy: in about 4 or 5 weeks so that I have to drive 5 hours to somewhere warmer just to find some clad coins.

Yup, snow and cold on the high plains of Nebraska as well. Time to head for the sheltered spots like old farm houses in the trees where the wind is blocked since those will stay open for a while.

I feel your pain. Its time to get out the power ice auger and vexilar.

I know the feeling. It started snowing here at about 6 AM this morning. Have 2 Inches already. I live in Huntington, W. Va. and was ready for it this time. Oh Well. HH...Jesse.

I figure this is it for a while. Thinking of getting rid of a few detectors and get something new for spring but not impressed with whats out there now. Have a ex 2 , DFX, MLxs 2A pro and a GTI 2000. I have found plenty with all but getting a new hot detector is like finding a whole new spot. Open to suggestions on what to buy and what to get rid of. Ken in Baltimore

I tried one last time yesterday in the cold. It's cold out. Did I mention it's cold? The ground's not frozen yet though, and the Lesche actually went in fairly easy. Seeing where I'd searched was easy too, since it left a sweep in the snow.

But now it's 15 degrees out, and I'm finally admitting to being done for the year. Rats.

On to research until Spring I guess.

Winter's setting in here in Ohio too. I'm going to do my best to keep detecting all this winter - weather permitting.

A few thoughts ...

If you have any places to hunt in the woods like abandoned houses, foundations etc.- the leaves help keep the ground from freezing as much as open area - like a grass area in a park.
Also - the swim clubs, state parks, etc., sand beaches are a lot easier to dig than frozen dirt areas.
