It's Silly Season - :ukflag: 18k Gold Ring

Yep its that time of year - kids are on summer break, the weather is warm (ish), its the start of silly season for those of us who live near the beach......

That wonderful time of year when people leave all logic and reason at home and all sorts of things will start to turn up...

Lasts nights hunt had a very globe trotting feel to it..............

There is a few Americans here on holiday at the moment.......... in fact more than a few it would seem as every hunt so far has produced US coins, I really think you ought to petition for higher value coins. Someone from Switzerland is here too - a 2 franc coin that converts to

LOL beachbat,

I will contact the U.S. mint and see what I can do for you. Personally, I would like to see a $5.00 coin :) Nice haul of goodies especially that 18K gold ring. Thanks for sharing! - Jim

Jim, you ought too..... I am forever grateful for the introduction of the

Hi Beachbat,
Here in the U.S. there a few different dollar coins. Some we just don't see in circulation such as the Eisenhower dollar and the Susan B.
Anthony dollar. The two that I see in circulation are the sacagawea dollar and the presidential dollar. if they took a spin off of the Eisenhower dollar and made that the new $5.00 that would be really nice! Although big in size this would stop the confusion (hopefully) to the younger people that the coin is worth 5.00 dollars instead of a quarter. I have gotten back the sacagawea & presidential dollars several times as the young cashiers think it is a quarter. There is a distinct difference and can not figure out how someone can mistake it for a quarter. The Eisenhower is the only coin I do not have pictured. HH - Jim

Presidential dollar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_$1_Coin_Program Started minting in 2007 - present

Susan B. Anthony dollar (which was a flop as so many people confused it with the quarter)

Eisenhower dollar (built like a tank and almost the size of one lol ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eisenhower_Dollar

Coingradulations on the coins, and goldgradulations on the 18k thats the kinda stuff thats nice to find, I count all american coins after 64 as rubbish, but at least they still buy somthing may more gold come your way

Gunnar - I think a lot of other people detecting around my area actually use discrimination to block out 5p coins, something I would never do - its the reason why they miss a lot of pocket spills because the 5p coins will always be on top......... there is a saying here in England, "look after the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves"

Jim, didn't realize there were a few different dollar coins - one wonders why they have never become mainstay of the currency and mass circulated..... perhaps I guess because the dollar bill is iconic....or is it to do with this...... I remember being told about the $2 dollar bill and why there is so little demand for them - no space in the cash registers!!

BeachBat,

Wait until the US dollar is stricken with hyperinflation then no denomination will matter...lol

Right around the corner and coming to a city near me. I'll go to the store to buy a loaf of bread and the clerk will say to me, " that will be $12.00 please" :surprised:

The more you hunt, the more you find.

Yes I am 'itching' to get out again, the tornado coil has found a few gold rings with usual audio whispers - just puzzled why the SEF screamed on this ring from that sort of depth..... need to find another one to see what happens.....
