I say that because today was a great day for quarters.
It is very, very hot in the Southern California desert. We started hunting at 6:30 this morning and it was 84 degrees.
By the time we stopped at about 10:00 it was 101.
Anyone that is going to detect in the heat of the day, do yourself a big favor and stay hydrated. I drank 16 oz. of water every hour. Always try and take a cooler with you loaded with ice and cold water. Apples and an oranges wouldn't hurt. We had all of the above and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. We were set
The reason we hunted so long today is the little elementary school was unlocked again today and this may be our last chance before school starts to detect the playground.
Started out at the city park because there was a Christian rock concert there last night that had about 500 people attend. Didn't find much there.
About 7:30 we decided to go see if the school was unlocked. Wow baby it was. Started swing the Pro and in less that 5 feet I hit a sweet 85 tone. Must be quarter city. after that about every 10 feet I would hit a quarter. It was unreal. I have never hit coins like that.
To make a long story short, I dug (1) dollar, 42 quarters, 14 dimes, 3 nickles and 26 penny's in about 2.5 hrs. Also got a 1958 Wheatie in the mix. Wound up with $13.41 not a bad day for an old guy. My hunting buddy did real well but he had to take off, so I do not know his count, but it was pretty good also.
42 quarts is my all time record for one hunt. We plan on griding the entire place if we have enough time before school starts.
Just so you all know I was hitting a lot of quarters with a sweet tone and VDI's ranges from 83-87. The ground was very moist because of the recent rain. I also hit a very sweet 94-95-94 and it was 3 quarters stacked on top of each other. The dollar VDI'ed 91-92-91. Most everything was less than 4" deep. I dug one quarter at a measured 6".
I'm going to learn how to post pictures here shortly so I can show some of these finds.
