It's over till next spring..

What am I doing here in a northern climate. I am really locked in against my will and cannot leave for now. With the very long duration of bleak freezing crappy weather we get. Australia, New Zealand, and the southern USA is at least 10 times better than here.

Looks like it(treasure hunting) is all over(finished) 'till next spring(about the end of March)! It is +21'F or -6'C right now and was +3'F or -16'C outside last night!! And snow on the ground.

zzzz(I am in hybernate mode).....you may be on treasure hunting research mode....for the winter I wish I was in a place called Mode, Arizona or Mode, Texas in an RV and then I could treasure hunt all winter long, with great temperatures of about 65' to 70'F (or 20'C) during the day in December, January, and February, sitting outside in a lawn chair in the warm winter sun, planning a treasure hunt, what a good thought!...it is honestly and really sure is crappy and terrible living in a northern climate. Living in a southern US state is the best place and a MUCH better place to live for year round warm weather and especially nice warm weather in the winter time...then also a person can run a metal detector for 12 months of the year with fresh air outside through the winter and not surrounded by a total deep freeze here, not being cooped up inside for the next 4 months like I will be now, is not healthy....done complaining and finished venting my rant, now I feel better.

Sorry to hear that. Here in middle New Mexico we are still in detecting mode. The ground doesn't really freeze up around here so if the wind isn't blowing it's more or less detecting year round.

I hunted year round last year and plan on doing it this year. I am in central NC it does not get real cold here. I layer up on "our" cold days and keep hunting, Beale.

Thanks xwyokid, see what I mean, New Mexico too! Detecting year round!

mohayes, amen, I am an official member of the Missionary Alliance Church and I agree. I know what you mean being content inside no matter where we are at and no perfect place here but get as close as possible as I am a long way from it now and what to get closer to it geographically meaning warmer weather. But my metabolism of my body really cannot take cold weather and hot weather does not bother me as I have spent 3 different January's in the middle of the Australian summer(1998, 1999, and 2001) some in the outback and I know what heat is all about and I like it. On 3 different occasions I have wrote down 3 prayer requests last summer, "to move to a year round warmer climate" and the Tuesdays prayer group prayed for me. I do give thanks but still want to move to a warmer climate. If a person hates both extreme cold and extreme hot weather as alot of people do, then move between San Francisco to southern Oregon along the coast, or move to Tasmania, or the South Island of New Zealand.

All 4 of my grandparents immigrated to here from Europe so why can't I also move to a warmer area as well, as there is nothing wrong with that....it would be sad if we all just gave thanks to the Lord, stayed content, and stayed put where we are at, and never moved. Then in that case the only people living in the USA and Canada would be Indians, to this present day!!

Sorry Beale, I missed you as I was writing this at the same time as you. See in NC too, year around metal detecting!!

You just gave the same temperatures I observed here.

IT is not he end of the world but it does mean detecting is over for the season, at least as far as digging anything local goes. I might get out if we can get to +5c (40f)

HH (Happy hibernation)

Not me!!! I'll keep an eye on those toboggan hills to see how busy they get. I'll be out as soon they go in for the night, head for those same hills and pick out their pocket and jewellery spills. :detecting:

1859, no, a way north of Edmonton towards Peace River country. Warming up a bit maybe try also if it gets +5'c or 40'f, if a maracle happens.

TN, good idea of detecting toboggan hills. The dealers wife I bought the X-Terra 70 off of told me to do that too but I never done it before. We do have a such a snow hill lighted 24 hours a day here and I will try that to get me out of the winter doldrums. It is not over 'till its over!

It was on the news all over, a meteorite and all the fragments very recently hit the ground near the central Alberta--Saskatchewan border. (Metal detectorists sometime find meteorites, all over the world.)

I'm sure there are lots of reasons you would not like it in any one of the places you mentioned.

" I'm not sure what the reasons are but".......

I will have to say ditto on the Michigan, done for the year thing, coincedently I may also be visiting Arizona in the spring, I have no idea where to hunt there but I will wave my coil around somewhere if I go.

Hi there from Australia. It's rained each weekend where I want to go. I had moved everything back to this coming weekend and when I checked the weather forecast, it looks like thunderstorms. When it's not raining, the temperature is simply unbearably hot.

Don't worry... we're itching to get out there too. It's just impractical to do so at the moment. Considering how much effort I've put into arranging trips out over the last few weeks (all of which were canceled at the last hour due to bad weather), it's kind of sad that I have to sit at home and do nothing.

Cheers,

Marco

This past Summer our club had a special hunt at a ski area, (after regular hunt) for marked pennies. The members hiding the pennies picked out an area (unknowingly) that had been a little bunny hill and sledding area for kids. We found tons of other coins and some jewelry.
