Found this today and all I can tell is that it is a coin, It is silver and on the obverse is a lady with ADA under her neck, above her are the letters ORIA?DFI GRATIA REGINA. On the back is a wreath looking thing with a H under it. The drawing is the best I can do as I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. Can anyone tell me about her?

How about a canadian coin? Interesting good find! HH, Nancy

Nancy, I think you might be right it does look Canadian.........

Might be a Canadian coin. I found a Canadian half a year or so ago and it has a simular word. HH Dennis in Idaho

It is a Canadian Quarter from 1870 to 1901 I think that is the date range. I hope it will clean up enough to get the date.

0.925 silver I'm surprised it's so corroded.
Nevertheless a good find.

Thinking that the quarter was not worth much I tried something, I took a soft lead pencil and rubbed it over the coin, all of the black tarnish that was there disappeared & the lettering came out. You can see much more detail even enough to see the date. It is a 1881 Canadian Quarter. I will try to post some pics tomorrow. May have destroyed the value of the coin but without knowing the date it was not worth much, I at least now know the date & it is my oldest coin so far.

Great find, can't wait to see the cleaned up pic!:clapping:

I was surprised by the amount of silver in the coin also. I was doing some research on them and here's what I found. Still one heck of a find and congrats on your oldest coin to date! HH to all, Nancy
