Got to walk on the lane last nite and watch Wes Beach, Sarge and some of the other tourists detect. Right shoulder has had 2 shots now in two weeks and I think this torn rotor cuff is gonna do me in if I have to have it fixed. Its my swinging arm and im not a lefty but I may learn it if I can put off surgery till fall, any one had success with surgery or should I try to avoid it.

First,Learn how to use both arm's.I did and its great. Not to go into details but I had a tumor removed and had limited use of my right side for a few months so I just started swinging with my left arm.Now it didn't look pretty but it did the job.with in about 3 times out it will be just as good as your right arm:)
As for the rotator cuff,Give it a chance to heal, sometimes surgury is worse than the pain,But that is one persons medical opinion and may not be whats in YOUR best intrest.
Chris

Positive sign of a rotor cuff tear is not being able to lift your arm above your head. Cortisone shots don't always work and sometimes aggravate the situation. There is not a lot of sucess rates with rotor cuff repairs and often there is scarring that is just as painful as the tear. If you can lift your arm above your head, then there is a series of excerises that can relieve the pain.

Looks like I am gonna be missing a good portion of this summers detecting myself with my knee. I have heard both good and bad results from people with rotator injuries mainly in the time it takes to heal post surgery. I guess as with anything its a case by case situation. Hope it works out for you whichever path you take....

Going to try being a lefty tomorrow, and it did seem to get a little worse after the shots, just getting old I guess, at least the knees still work for now and the back surgery 8 years ago worked. The lane is calling me, here comes lefty

I sometimes switch arms, that enables me to swing 2 times as long. I hope it heals up so you could get in some summer huntin.

Hay Look at the Detetctor Pro HH Diver its Light Man N will keep up with the Big Boys or Better,

i had a serious arm injury a couple of years back. my doctor sent me to see a specialist at the hospital, where i was given stretching exercises to do every day, i noticed a improvement after a week, and after 6 months it was nearly cured. it,s not that hard to detect with the other arm if you practice. hope you heal quick

I've had both of my shoulders done, my left was the worst. Rotator cuff, deltoid tendon and muscle and a torn bicept tendon. It was the worst pain I ever experianced when I had it fixed, took a few months to heal and another couple months to get full motion back. If you would have asked me a month after the surgery, if I would ever be able to use my arm again, I would have said HELL NO!!! It is fine now, clicks sometimes and I am not going to be throwing footballs with it very much, but no pain. You may want to try a chiropractor ( gonstead style) first. It may be your neck. I saved one guy the pain of surgery by recommending my chiropractor to him. He didn't need surgery after all.

I had A bad right rotator cuff for years, a doctor show me a exercise that helps, get a can of soap, grip it and keep your elbow up against the side of your ribs pull forearm up were it is strait out in front of you, then go has far to the left then as far to the right as you can get it to go, be sure and keep the elbow to the side snug, has you are going from side to side start one time with your thumb facing up, then twist the wrist so your knuckles are on top keep a good grip on the can will doing this. It will help, if you try it you will feel the tighten of the rotator it helps to build the area back up. I hoped I explained that well enough. Bayrat

I had mine done two years ago. I had to pull weights from left to right, got out with my metal detector. Got the full range of movement. Detecting turned out to be a big part of my recovery, also found 13 rings in two weeks, while taking therapy and detecting. That was about 3 weeks after surgery.
