It's all Greek to me.

From what I gather, any coil that works with the Teknetics Greek series detectors (Alpha, Delta, Gamma, and Omega) will also work on the G2. And if it works on the G2, it will also work on the Goldbugs. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you kev

Goldbug/G2 are not designed to work with the concentric coils. Some of the greek series coils have both push in style and screw in style connections. I think g2/goldbug only have screw in style but Im not 100 percent positive.

Here's what Dave J. says about coils.

The new Bug (and also Tek G2) are designed to work with the Tek "Greek series" (also known as "Frat Bros.") series DD searchcoils, which at this time (Nov 2010) consists of a 5 inch round and an 11 inch elliptical.

Some people have gotten creative and plugged in other searchcoils from the FratBros and F75 series just to find out what happens. Results have been mixed. Because of manufacturing variation in searchcoils some individual ones of a particular type may "work" and others may not work. The ones that "work" may in fact exhibit subtle performance deficiencies, or may seem to work fine today but not tomorrow.

FTP-Fisher explicitly un-recommends that people purchase anything other than searchcoils specified for use with these units. But if you have one of our other searchcoils anyway, there's nothing to stop you from plugging it in just to see what happens. It won't damage the machine. Note however that Tek T2 searchcoils flat out won't work, they're wired different.

This question crops up on such a regular basis that I invite the moderator to make it a "sticky".

MassSalt -- all responses to your question are correct; I just want to clarify that you wanted to know if ALL Tek Greek series coils are compatible with a G2/Gold Bug Pro (or DP). The answer is YES, but ONLY IF they are DD coils. There are concentric coils for the Greek series machines that are NOT recommended by First Texas for use with the G2/Gold Bug Pro (as you can read in Dave J.'s post which was reposted above by 88junior). As long as you are buying a DD coil, and as long as it is designed for either a Tek G2, a Gold Bug Pro or Gold Bug DP, or for one of the Tek "Greek series" machines (but NOT a coil designed for the original "Gold Bug," or the followup "Gold Bug 2"), then you are good to go. This includes the 13" Ultimate DD coil for the Omega -- it will work properly on your machine.
