I may need help on IDing this item I found at an old home site today.
I believe it to be a locket that women put a few drops of perfume in and wore it and the holes allowed the fragrance to to escape.. early form of deodorant.
I think I saw on posted on one of them forums a while back.

I think the holes were for mounting stones or colored Glass. See the link...

I think it is just a locket like to hold a picture and there were sets (jewels) in the holes at one time. It's a very neat find. I love old lockets.
 
does anybody know what kind of symbol that is? I saw something similar online and they said it may be a masonic symbol?
