It wasn't a big fat toe ring after all

Hi,

Did some hunting along the river bank on the South Fork of the American River about 2 miles West of Coloma, CA. I detected something and after digging a bit and seeing it from a bird's eye view it looked like a big fat toe ring. When I wiped it off I noticed it was a metal bird band. I got on-line and found the Fish and Wildlife Service site and made a report about the band. I'm supposed to get a letter about the bird and a certificate of appreciation.

Highly coveted amongst the duck hunting community. Been duck hunting for 30 years approx and have never gotten one. Nice find! More than likely made of aluminum. They are used to track the migration of the birds.
