Richard, thanks for the response. I don't mind you asking at all. I love talking shop when it comes to detecting. I use the DFX along with the 5.3", 9.5", and the new Super 12" coils. The signal depends slightly on depth, but for the most part, they run around 79-80. I use mostly the audio tones, but am still learning. I would say 4" and shallower they run fairly consistent on sound and VDI to any pre 1982 penny, 4"-8" maybe a tad higher in sound, almost the way a silver dime may sound at a shallower depth, and 8" and deeper, they seem to hit sounding low, around a 50-60 VDI. Anything pinpointing small and reading deeper than 6", I am digging regardless though. It also changes depending on what frequency I am using, but what I listed is with the default settings, and a few sensitivity tweaks. My main detecting technique, is trust the audio signal at 4" and less and dig the good signals, dig everything 5" and deeper that produces a non-iron sound within the default Coin and Jewelry mode, and run All Metal mode in cleaner areas and dig every single thing that is 10" and deeper. My personal best is a silver dime at 15" and a LC at 17". I always thought these depths were impossible, but ever since I planted my test garden and really started learning the settings for the DFX, I just keep going deeper and deeper. I use to think who really wants to dig 17" holes, but after you start pulling old coins out at that depth, you get addicted. You can't always do it, but a couple days after a good rain, the ground is softer, not in a rocky area, it really isn't that hard if you pick the right spots. I am in and out after 5-7 minutes or so. Well, I have rambled enough. I hope this helps. HH and thanks for looking.
