Help that is. Our local private airport is now a massive military staging ground. Supplies seem to be on every corner. We give away our surplus. People hugging, telling stories, some they wish they never wished to experience. Its like something you would see on a horror movie. But Mississippians are upbeat. You see signs people have posted on their property trying to play it down. Vowing to come back stronger than ever. Our coast is literally gone. Jefferson Davis home, gone. The old plantation place in Gautier, gone. 1800's landmarks, gone. Miles of historic homes, gone. A man our family knew stayed in his house on the beach was washed away in his house 6 miles out. He paddled home on debris, blessed to be alive. Helicopters rule the skies. Super Stallions, Blackhawks, Jet Rangers, Sea Hawks. CH 47 Chinooks. and so on. I can hear the coming and know what they are before I see them. Its nightmarishly unreal. Victems in our area still being recovered. People couldn't protect themselves from the surge. They report 30 to 35 foot tidal surge, but that was not the top of the surge. Waves and breakers were on top of that making them approach possibly 50 feet, which violently crashed down on the coastal cities and neighborhoods. It may be weeks or more before all the recovery is done. They equate it to a nuclear holocaust without the radiation. People feel guilty their house was spared, including myself. I have to find a way to get physically involved. Pray the gas situation gets better soon so I can get in the middle of it. I drove around a little a day or so ago. The things Carol and I saw were unimaginable. Company employees from a place up north told their bosses they were taking company trucks to the gulf to help. They were refused their request. They banned together, said they quit and were stealing the trucks. The owners quickly changed their minds and headed south. Thats the stories and actions that make America great.
