It pays to dig it all, and I do dig a LOT of trash

this is to show you, that Goes4ever digs trash too.........and a lot of it, I want people to see everything I dig is not just treasure!

went back to an old playground/ballfield area I have hammered in the past, last year I pulled 20+ silvers, countless wheats out of this area, but never a single old nickel. Well today I went determined to dig a buffalo or V nickel, this place is about 100 yrs old...........

well I tired so hard to dig old nickels, closest I got was a 1950 jefferson! Look at this pile, I dug every iffy signal I got, I didn't care what it registered as. You see the large square rust thing? Well I always try to dig large iron like that out in case it is masking stuff, well I pulled it from the hole, rescanned the hole and got a sweet tone, right under the rusty square thing was the religious medallion, so I guess it pays to remove the trash! If I had not dug that iron I would have never got the medallion!

I dug beaver tails, pulltabs, etc....trying so hard for old nickels.........just wasn't meant to be! Ended up with 3 wheats, and 2 of them had nails in the hole with them. I just about got this place cleaned out, there is nothing left there but crap signals. A lot of deep square nails....iffy but I didn't care I took the chance and dug em!

Congrats on the very good finds! Is the medalion silver? It sure looks it, I really like that one, Beale.

Nice find there especially since it was under the large piece of iron... wonder how many people went over that and left it in the ground.
To get the finds I made yesterday, I had to dig a lot of iffy signals too.. heck even the silver dimes gave bouncy signals, but something about the signals gave me an idea that it may indeed be a coin.
These places can really wear you down trying to decipher the signals and I find that after some time, it helps to leave the site, go to another site and then hit this site another day when you are fresh again.
This place that these coins were found has been hunted hard, but still manages to give good coins up each time we go in there.
I was hoping to find an old quarter or half dollar in there, but haven't had any success yet... just wheats, IH's, nickels, and dimes. With all that digging, if there is nickel in there, you are sure to find it sooner or later.
Good luck and happy hunting,
Felix

if I have a site, where solid signals do not exist, and deep, iffy, jumpy signals are coins even 25% of the time, I will just watch my depth meter and dig EVERYTHING that is 5-6" and deeper. A lot of people will ignore these signals, and I am GLAD they do........because I LOVE iffy signals!!!!

it is so rewarding to hunt a POUNDED site and get old coins that you know other people dismissed as trash! Puts a smile on my face everytime! :clapping:

Good job, thanks for showing the pictures. What year were the wheats?

Dig the medalian, no pun intended. Well now there is. Makes a guy want to dig trash. Well, not me I dig enough already, iffy signals too. I am starting to get it to where I can usually tell it will be a pull tab or nail. But I keep diggin em hopping to find stuff like that one.

Very nice collection of finds. I love that sweet sounding medallion. Still looking for a nice item like that or a good ring. Are you searching in all metal most of the time? I am so far impressed with the depth and depth indicator and the readouts. Also the small trinket stuff I have gotten in my short time with this 705. How IFFY are those signals? High sensitivity?

Yes when a person gets into the nickle-gold zone alot of junk metal alloys, aluminum, lead, and brass trash is also there and it is harder work. It is so easy to be a silver(and clad) only hunter in very trashy areas and ignore all numbers below about 34 or so. Or ignore all numbers below 40 and lose silver dimes.

And / Or like you do, dig everything that is 5-6" and deeper.

Also it helps alot to work in a team of 2 people with one main metal detector, and having someone else with either a Garrett Pro-Pointer or DetectorPro Pistol Probe Pinpointer do the digging for you. Then switch places after a while.

I've always thought (to myself, about me) If I'm at an old homestead and not digging iffy signals I might as well be home. Yea, the trash gets annoying but, someday it'll payoff. I hope.

I to second what you say, if I did not dig a iffy single I would not have found my first and only 14k ring.

no I use pattern one 100% of the time. These signals were crazy iffy, most of them I probably should have dismissed as junk, but you have to realize I have hunted this area over and over and over, in every direction possible, there isn't many signals left, so I was just trying as hard as I could to pull something decent out of a pounded area. What needs to be done is for an etrac to run over this area to see what all I missed with the x-70..lol

That is one super find. Only hope the ground thaws out some, so I can see what the new Xterra can do in soft ground.
Keep posting I get so excited in hoping its my next find.

Happy Hunting
