I was trying to locate a Confederate camp. While walking through the woods I found this and a few square nails. I did dig a lot of barb wire. I think the camp was more toward the farmer's field that was posted. I was walking a ridge that over looked the town and I am sure that there was some activity here. My question is what is this thing. It is about a foot and a half long with a hook on the ends. It pivots quite well so the arms I assume grab something. Maybe hay?

Hey John

Maybe that piece was used to spool out that barbed wire you were talkin about.

Run a stick or a dowel type piece thru the center of the spool, and hooked into the hooks and was pulled??

Just a WAG:shrug:
