It finally Sold

So my DFX finally sold on consignment. I had to lower the price but that's OK. In thirty days I should have a brand new AT Pro. I been reading the posts and watching the You Tube videos and it look like a fantastic machine. I hope the learning curve isn't too steep. I never felt like I ever "mastered" the DFX... This detector seems to be simpler and more concise in it's operation.

Think you made a wise swap and the AT should reward you well. A lot of folks are swapping their old faithful "other brand" for an AT. Don't think the learning curve willgive you any trouble. Garrett's are basically an easy machine to master if you just take your time and learn their quirks.

Don't ya just hate those kind? HA. Spend all your time fiddling with menus, programs, and BS instead of hunting. Like the V3. I called it a video game on a stick. HA.

If you use all of your time fiddling with menus, programs and BS, it is because you didn't take the time to learn how to use the machine first. A programmable detector becomes a turn on and go hunting machine once you optimize it for your personal preferences, hunting style and ground conditions.

Know what you mean. I sold my Minelab Safari for the same reason. It just never suited me and all the noises it made seemed from outer space. I have my AtPro now and ready to do some digging. Onus

You all know free time is really is hard to come by. I was spending a lot of time "adjusting" and never did feel like I got it right. One more thing, too, you folks are very welcoming to us "newbies." :clapping: I felt like an idiot on some other similar MD forums! If you can't tell I am really anxious to get my hands on the AT pro...
Any of you guys in the Seattle area?

takes this "hobby". I got a new AT Pro solely for the shallow water features. It is not even in the ball park when compared to my main machines. However I think for the money it is a bargain and could pay for its self quite easily at my local fresh water beaches.
As a matter of fact I just renewed my state park beach detecting permit today.Just need to loose about 5" of snow and I will be good to go:thumbup:

I will probably get one for the same reason Ray but I think I will wait for the revised model to be released. I'm not getting in the water for 4 or 5 months anyway.......

I have been in this since 1980 and i think this AT Pro is in the"" ball park"" right with your high priced detectors.

Are you sure about that Keppy? Ray is pretty darned good with an E-Trac and I'm not too shabby with the V3i........

Well that AT Pro is showing some good results.............And on that E-trac i have worked side by side with my Sovereign and E-tracs ............And my Sovereign............. Could detect any thing the E trac could.............. Just i had no vid screen... But i never cared for screens any why................On the V3 i never worked with one so you got me there..............

I understand your thinking Larry. In my case I did take the time to learn the machine. Actually, I spent two years with that MD and spent a small fortune on instructional materials, Yep, I know that a lot of guys want to "turn-on and go" but that wasn't the case with me. I took the time read the manual...joined the forums...ask questions....spent hours and hours in the field...

As an example, my old machine has 198 VDI numbers and 198 corresponding pitches associated with each VDI. When I compare to the At pro (which has three) it's basically eliminating a bunch of unnecessary ( and at times confusing) tones. If you used the pre-set factory programs you lost a lot of depth because the discrimination was set so high. So then you'd increase the AC sensitivity and have to balance that with the pre-amp gain etc. etc. Don't get me wrong... it's a good machine.... and I got better with the adjustments.

Another problem may have been psychological. Like "hey -- I've got all these adjustments so maybe I'd better use them..." Just seemed in the end to be more and more "adjusting..." So maybe I need something that's not quite as complex.

I'm anxious to try this Garrett.... Looking at the L/S down the road, too.

That is why a lot like Garrett detectors they find as much and are as deep as the high price detectors.... And not so darn comlicated .........Why these detectors have to be so comlicated to find a coin i don't know......""YES I DO "" So they can charge you a big dollar for all the bells & whistles that do not make the detector go any deeper...

If your assumptions are correct Keppy, White's, Minelab and First Texas will all soon be out of business.

No they will not they will still sell like hot cakes................You like E trac in Minelab i like Sovereign in Minelab.... I don't know if you like Garrett but i got the A T Pro and the Pro Pointer.......We all like different things and brands............ Some like bells & whistles and some dont.... My self i know my Sovereign will find any thing your E trac will.......... and i am hopeing that my AT Pro will find any thing your E Trac will....... Larry i knew i would hear from you when i wrote that ...... Talk to you later.........HH.....................................OPS sorry you have the V3i ........ I am getting old can not remember every thing i read...

........... I'm the White's guy Keppy.....

Yep you are you said the V3i ........... I never saw one used only on Utube.............

Just hope you don't bet the farm on the results  In all fairness I think the AT Pro may hit small gold better than the E-Trac.On the other hand it is no match for silver coins over 8" in my soil. The E-Trac will hit hard and ID them correctly while the AT Pro will not even make a peep on the deeper ones during actual testing.
The results do not diminish the abilities of the AT Pro for me though as I did not buy it to hunt deep silver and at the price of the AT Pro it is very impressive:thumbup:Once I got some good headphones hooked up it has become even more impressive.I have a good feeling about the results I will be getting at the local fresh water beaches as soon as the weather warms a bit.
I am not much of a "bells and whistles" kind of guy either and base the way I rate a machine solely on performance and in-field results.I read where some complain about color schemes and appearance of a machine and I have to laugh.A machine can be purple and pink ,but if it performs great I will be happy to use it.

I have no interest in hunting clad coinage and base my test results accordingly. How well any machine suits a person has a lot to do with what they plan to search for....Clad coinage, older deeper coinage, gold jewelery, relics or several of the above and when a machine helps you find what you want to find it is a great machine for you and that is the way I look at it,Ray.
