It couldn't get any better than this.

I got permission from this farmer to Md an old log cabin that was bought by the state of Iowa. They disassembled it and even took every square nail. This here is the cellar and a little barn. I had a hard time getting our schedules to coincide, but we finally got together today. He brought a buddy along. There still was a lot of trash. It was hard to concentrate with two guys always talking to me. I had to keep one headphone off my ear so I could hear them. It was exactly the perfect situation.

The good thing was I had two helpers and they wouldn't let me dig one target. They did it all and they were having fun. They told me to keep detecting. Here they are locating a target for me under a big rock. We found the bottom to a carbide light, pocket knife, harness parts and lot of stuff he knew but looked like rusty iron trash. He was happy and put all the things in a bucket that he was carrying along. I already had most of that stuff anyway.

We are up on a hill and he owns all the way past the pond. Also said I can hunt (gun) there anytime I want. If I come back with the detector he want to be there and help me. He said he is ready to do it again!:twodetecting:
Oh yea, they said they are going to help me find other sites to MD. They know of some more log cabins.

John that is the coolest:thumbup:....my youngest son came up from NC for the weekend and I ask him to go with the old man to investigate where an old shcool house stood sometime back in the 1920's according to one of the maps(thanks to you) that I now have. Anyway we went there, found the place, and we dug iron pieces that appeared to be old mule or horse harness hardware.....so anyway as we were there with nobody around for miles I thought to myself it couldn't get any better than this. Spent some valuable time with my son. Thanks again for the maps.

See thats what comes of being such a great, unassuming guy. You deserve it, if anybody does...

I could improve on your experience by just a little.

It would go: "And I came home and found I had won 100 million in the lottery."

Now that would be a great day.

John, you take great photos. The two scenic ones should be enlarge, framed, and hung on your wall. Just beautiful. Thanks for posting them. Dave in N.E. Penna.

The cabin and wall pic was a stunner.

I use to have some good cameras and I would sell my pictures. I did a few weddings and was a camera man for a couple of TV stations. My biggest job was a PGA tournament on Hilton Head.

After destroying two cameras and falling on hard economic times, I now have a $98 camera. BUT wait until Christmas.:clapping::cam:

Right you are John. I wonder what part of Iowa got the cabin?

The farmer told me the state of Iowa bought it. I have no idea where the put it. Maybe a park.

Kind of funny. A beautiful Iowa relic. There are a lot, I mean a lot of those log cabins here.

The cabin is gone. All that is left is this cellar and a little barn. The cellar is in the foreground. I would say there is about two ft. of dirt in it. MD'ing these old places, I don't seem to find as much as I would a newer place, meaning built in the late 1800's. Any help would be appreciated.
