It blows my mind .....

This blows my mind !!

The AT Pro is a nice machine and I'm willing to bet that it took
a long time for the engineers to create some of the new features
on the machine.

Then ....this is what really blows my mind.

They put this lousy headphone connection that is bound to
create problems sooner or later.

I think that users may want to keep the headphones
connected all the time. The pins are tiny and fragile and
it's a pain.

If anything else ...should of made a adapter available to
remedy the problem.

Again a realy nice detector but they should work on improving that
part of the detector.

I'll bet you that will be remedied in future productions of the AT. Why it was constructed like that in the first place is beyond me, but it happens all the time in all types of manufacturing.

People with high-level degrees and years of experience can make stupid decisions just like anyone else.

They will have an adapter available. I ordered one along with my detector. Received the At Pro two days ago but was told that it will be a while before they catch up with stuff like the adapter.

Yea it is a pain in the butt to plug in but it is a lot stronger than you would think. I took mine completely apart to wire some other headphones in and the connector pins are thicker and better than they look. I bet there are very few problems with them breaking. They have been used for years on the sea hunter and Infinium and I have not heard of any problems on them. Relax it will be ok.

I did not find it to be a problem but then I have had many years practice screwing on unusual connectors on many different types of radios.

Same configuration as my Shiebel mine detector,

Thanks Jason and Jarry Nice to hear good talk, The glass of water is 1/2 full people????

Yeah I spent the better part of 36 years assembling and screwing high rises, hospitals, shopping centers, military facilities, and sports arenas together all over this country and it's still a pain. HAA. I helped build the facilities for the SR-71 spy plane before anyone even knew it existed.

The little pins are not fragile..they are almost an inch long and are strong and robust....I have put some together and soldered them myself and got them from Garrett in pieces.....(the way they come).

Maybe it is you who are fragile...and all the other cry babys here whining about the connectors.

If you want easy to use connectors dont use the AT PRO with water proof connectors use your regular machines.

The connectors are tucked away in back so to keep it from being bumped, scraped, hit, damaged...as the case itself is a shield for the connectors. This why they are where they are. IT IS BUILT FOR TOUGH TERRAIN! Connectors are tough...maybe the connectors are too tough, for wimps!

Man, I never heard so much crying....

Na, it wont be remedied...nothing wrong with it...look at the Scorpion's battery compartment...people bitching about it for years and its still there...hahaha.

You must have one made special for Southern Oregon. My pins ain't robust and an inch long. I kept worrying I was going to miss the hole and bend them. And I'm well aware of why they are recessed but they could have left room to get ahold of the knobs and turn them. Just common sense not rocket science.

Those pins have been used for over 30 years by Ikelite on their waterproof connectors and there has never been a problem with them. They have been used in all types of underwater electronic and photographic equipment and are waterproof to 200ft. Garrett has gone one step further by having built a keyway into their connector so there is only one way to insert the connector. Now I am sure there are some people out there who don't pay attention to what they are doing and believe that more force is the answer to putting anything together rather than looking to see why something isn't going together smoothly and these people may find a way to break the connector. But most normal people will probably not have any problem with the connectors. Too stress these gold plated pins to the breaking point you would first have to find a way to break the metal connector itself and if you do manage to do that you have pretty much already destroyed your entire detector. The biggest problem I see with them is that they made so that there is only enough room for a small child's fingers to get in there to screw in the connector. Since many of us won't have a small child out in the field with us to help connect the coil and headphones I can see some people pulling out the Channel Lock Pliers in order to tighten the connectors and that may just cause some problems. They go deep into the connector...almost an inch. Of course they do not stick out an inch. Oh well, everyone cant be happy with every feature.

Yea, ole Jim Straights Scorp is 140 years old.....he had the first one...haha.
