This morning...well more like early afternoon, i've kicked myself out and went searching for a place to hunt. Here is the refreshing view of my detect-mobile as i was loading my gears :

We might had the warmest automn in registred history... that only ment that lady winter would come in by surprise. Altough, early next week might be on the warmer side and some of that white stuff might disapear. I'm crossing my fingers!

So I drove off and my first stop was the same beach where i got my last gold last week. We got a few signals there but the winds were unbearable. Well upon arrival there, i noticed the winds were still present and the ice crust was to be an anoyance i didn't felt like dealing with. It would be detectable, but... i'm not that desperate yet!

So here is the view i was faced once arrived :

So i drove off and took a look at a second ancient beach... and the ice was even worst. Then i tryed a third place and once again... my hopes weren't very high and i gave up on that site again.

Since the wind was coming from across the river, that ment that the ice was probably less important on the opposite side of the river. The ice bits are floating and the small bay are collecting them making a large crust.

So i went across the river to a site we've pounded several times lately. Well this time, the ice wasn't a problem. But since the water lever has risen, there wasn't mutch beach to walk on for my son who wasn't wearing water boots. Plus, there are some big excavations channels here and there and that could be deadly to fall in, especially since the water isn't that clear and there were good chances i could miss them. So i had to scratch that site from the list also...

Well finally i arrived at my last stop (sorry, no pictures!) and the conditions were... acceptable. So i've geared up and went in the water. Wind was a bit chilly (minus 6 degress celcius), but not strong enauph to cause a problem. Me and Luke pounded that place real badly in the last few weeks so i wasn't execting mutch.

But i did managed a few signals that turned out to be 3 or 4 pennies, a nickle, a crooked dime plus two religious medals. I found a small area where i dug a few pull tabs and i was thinking..."well i will probably not see the nice gold color in my scoop anymore this season". A few seconds later, was digging an other pull tab signal and Whammo !!!! A nice 14K 6,3 grams band!!! Yeppi !!!!

I detected some more a little, but the sun was hidden by the clouds and it created a problem. Ice was forming on my scoop handle. A thin crust and that made the scoop very had to control. After detecting for maybe an hour total... decided i had enauph... After all, i was please to see gold in my poutch!

I'll solve my handle problem tomorrow by adding a few lines of foam tape. So this means i'll be out again tomorrow... most probably at the same place !

Sir if that ain't dedication I don't know what is. Guess I'll stop griping about it being 55 here in South Texas. Ice forming on the scoop handle!!!!!!! you must have polar bear somewhere in the family:biggrin:You earned that gold, heck if all was fair you would have found 10 of 'em.
