Ist Time Out with MXT

Captain Hook

New member
I started detecting back in January. Since then I have owned a GTI1500, Minelab Excalibur, X-Terra 70 and a Minelab Safari. I traded the X-Terra 70 last week for an MXT. I took the MXT out this afternoon for the first time. I hunted a local school just to check the detctor out. I found a few coins and some misc stuff. I really like the feal of the MXT. It is well balanced and not too heavy. There is quite a learning curve for me after using the Minelab detectors. When my X-Terra or Safari come across a coin, they register the number, then sound off. After awhile you could tell from the sounds that there was a coin there. Today I used the MXT for the first time. I constanly watched the screen to see what the detector was finding. Some times it would sound off about a target, sometimes it wouldn't? I probably had the settings incorrect. I would like to hear what modes and settings you prefer. I know that there are many variables in the different types of soils. I live in North Florida. I enjoyed using the MXT. I look forward to your feedback. Thanks in advance.

If you want to do a bunch of coin shooting, pay attention to chapter 6.

Hope this helps...

Nice amount of clad finds. The MXT has a small learning curve compared to the Minelab, etc. You're doing it right. If the coin/target didn't sound off, the metal content was below where you had your discrimination set. Now if you could find the rest of that Cadillac! HH and thanks for posting and the picture! Hi Capt. Hook, I've been using my -M--X--T for over 2 years now and really enjoy it. It was as they say, turn on and
GO for me. I found 6 nickels almost stacked on top of each other down to 6' within 15 min at my home. Who'd a thunk it?
Now I mostly use either my :whites: 6 X 10 DD , or the 950 stock coils. Tho I do have a 3.5 X5 DD coil from KellyCo and
also a 5" DD and an 8" DD also. I bought a DX-1 piinpointer about 6 months ago and tho I still use my :whites: pinpointer at times,
the DX-1 is the best. I also have a hearing problem(NAM) and so I use the Black Widdow HP's, for me there excellent, JMO.
What part of N. FL are you at? The wife and I are coming thru around Mar. or Apr. next year to go for the GOLD in GA. and if
your near where we are going maybe we can stop by and swap some stories. OK. Hope you enjoy that MXT as much as I do mine.
HH and good luck with it. floridason KC:detecting:

Thanks to all that responded. Several people looked but few responded at first. I am glad to see that we have such a great forum for us MXT users. Thanks to plokken for the information about the book. I will get one on order.

I have noticed that many MXT users search for coins in the relic mode with the trigger locked forward. I think I also read that many lock the ground balance. I did not lock the ground balance last time out. I will try some new setup's next time out.

Thanks to all.

Thats one killer detector takes a while but not to hard to master. We hunt early colonial sites on up and it never lets us down. Try it on relic zreo Discrimmintion full sensitivity you dont want to dicriminate a thing out. In early areas not much trash so you know it will be a good hit.go slow your graph will let you know coins read from 60 to 90 and thats a gimme for sure.the MXT is by far the best out there just takes some practice.i've been using it for seven yrs and love it .Stock coil is great but i like the 5x10 DD in fields were thers usually no trash so the relics really read well hope this helps you out.
