Issue with my Etrac on Daytona Beach???

Grunter

Active member
Running my Etrac on Daytona's quick crete sand using stock coil, beach program in auto 3. I keep getting a 12-01 at the end of each swing with a low tone. I've tried running in a different mode, adjusted the sensitivity down and used noise cancel but still having the same issue. I dug a clad dime yesterday that was at least a foot deep. Can anyone offer any advice on curing this issue? Thanks for any suggestions. I will offer one ,Got to go to a different beach with some soft sand or get a jack hammer to dig with here.

its an issue with the way the coil cable connects to the coil connector inside the main control box housing. I sent mine back to minelab for the exact same reason and they fixed it. there is a part that they replaced but I cant remember what part they said it was. I never had that problem occur again and that was about a year and a half ago.

]***follow up they could not reproduce the problem. I told them originally and also on the phone that the problem is very intermittent said:
i was new to the etrac, a few months or so:

after using it for a season and knowing something was wrong:

some people experience this and have come up with their own solutions. if you have the left side of the screen dicsed out youd never even know you had trouble, just nulling.

this may or may not be what happened to you. but after almost two years of use not one time did i ever get the "foil falsing" again after minelab fixed whatever the strain releif part is.

id suggest next time youre out just make sure the coil connection is nice and tight and then see if it happens any more.

Thanks Moonshine for the info. I removed the upper shaft, disconnected the coil and reconnected it. I made sure that the upper shaft was bottomed out and problem solved for now. I did notice when I was running it the other day there seem to be some wobble in the upper shaft which I think may have contributed to the issue. I think the coil connecter was hitting the upper shaft.

Theres another issue on Daytona, I hunt there as well with my Etrac. Black sand. If you see much around the Etrac will have a tendacy to do this with the speed/direction change. After that last storm event there was lots of black sand. I just disc out that number, crank the manual sens ang go. Had some good hauls of greenies after that storm hunting in the black stuff.

Sailorman, I've hit about 3 different locations at DB and DB shores,3 at Flagler beach and New Smyrna and come up with approx. 30 cents in clad. Very few targets at all. Do you have any suggestions for an area where I can at least hear a high tone every once and awhile? I'm heading towards Ormond today, any place up that way?

Conditions are sanding in again. I just got back with a couple of bucks in clad, a wheatie and a polish coin for four hours, One friend managed a stainless ring.

Most people right now are hunting too far down the slope. Just hunting the waterline isn't going to pay off right now. Look for slight dips below the old cuts and grid from the high tide line to about 2/3 down to low tide line. Look for the coins in pockets. If there's rings they'll be in the same general area often times.

If you're getting nothing after 15 to 20 minutes drive to the next depression and try again.

Conditions are a little tough right now so you have to move around looking for the good spots. The stuff is deep as well. Push your sens as high as stand it and dig the deep iffy targets. I was in man sens 26 today and it was noisy but got me some fringe iffy targets.

Good luck!

Thanks Sailorman. I run Ormond beach for about 200yds just north of Andy Romeo park. I gridded like your suggestion. I found one surface Zinclon and a small split shot sinker. That was the only signals I got. I was running my DFX. Do you use your ATP on the beach? I tried running mine the other day but had to GB down to 14 and drop my sensitivity down to 3 bars still didn't find anything.

Run my Etrac there, even calf deep in the water, I know, I'm nuts! There's still a lot of black sand starting about 2 inches down. The Minelabs seem to do a better job in this stuff. It's all the way to the dunes right now. The coins are deep and under it. You have to run hot and pick through the chatter it seems.
