Issue with Garrett GTI2500

Hi all,

I was using my Garrett 2500 yesterday in a school yard. Everything was going good and done a few sweeps of the field and decide to go up to the playground and try the swing area.
The area had 3/4 minus rocks as a medium and I picked up a target at 6 inches and started to dig down but hid a hard barrier. My assumption is that it was concrete. Just then my machine started to go crazy and the display went blank, started making a weird sound, and the top display only had I square which moved from left to right in a continuous motion. I also noticed that the various LCD modes and options would display on and off. I lifted it up form the ground almost horizontal but it was still going bonkers.
I shut her down and restarted and it came back to my normal screen and then after a second or two, back to going crazy. I reset and again, OK and then back to crazy.
The battery level showed full but I went back to the car and replaced them anyways. When I turned it on again, it was normal for a second or two and then crazy again! WTF!
So I tried a reset again and this time it seemed to go back to normal. I used it for another 5 or 10 minutes but had to leave and have not used it since. I am going to try it again tonight after work but wondered if anyone had ever had this happen?
Was it the concrete/re-bar or is there some other issue?

Try it at a different site. It sounds (so far) like there might be some other issues with it. Try a different coil and see if that corrects the problem. Make sure all your connectors are tight.

Hope the detector is working ok by now..I don't have a clue as to what the problem could have been ,but every time one of my Garretts acted up like that it seems it always ended up in the repair shop...

Local power lines can make things act goofy. If it does it at another location, send it in.

Hope you figure it out. There is one spot in my yard that goes crazy with my 2500 and it's across the power line section. Even if I change the frequency and lower the sensitivity, that one strip always acts up. I may try it with the AT/PRo. Everywhere else, it works fine. There also are some old pipes in the ground in this area, but I have them marked with some stakes.

Thanks all. I have tried it in the backyard and it never did it again. I was using the larger coil but figured I would keep using till it does it again and then switch to the smaller one to see if its a coil issue. If not, I will ship her in to Garrett. Wait and see.
Thanks again guys.
