Ok, I'm a lefty and when I put the ctx in my left hand the screen contrast is washed out. When it is in my right hand the contrast is perfect, very nice. Makes it very difficult for me as a lefty to see. I think it's the nature of the LCD screen but puts a lefty in a frustrating position.(had three other people test it and agree) Anything they can do to make it better. To test on yours, put the coil on the ground centered in front of you, battery on your belly. Then leave coil in the same position but move just the battery end far left then back far right. Does your screen wash out when goes to the left? Any input would be useful, thank you

have you removed the screen film?

I've heard that from the reseller and minelab. Mine is absolutely noticeable. Think I'll have to send it back or in to minelab.

One photograph is with machine in left hand the other is with machine in right hand. Notice the difference in contrast/visibility from one holding in the left vs. right hand. If the contrast is that washed out in the left hand while indoors I hate to see what it will be like in the sun. Again, when in the right hand visibility/contrast is very good.

I'm a lefty, with a new CTX and no issues here. A birth injury prevents me from using right arm for detecting, but screen is perfect for left handed use for me, i have even lowered my brightness down to 8 as to not kill the screen and save power.

I have read that some CTX screens are concave and don't allow screen protect films to work well. Mine seems to be flat and new screen protector i put on does fill nicely, (added day one)

Can you measure across screen with straight edge and see if it's tiled to one side ( if what your seeing with the screen, it might be tiled to the right)

Maybe you have a bad one.

What has ML said?
Will they exchange it for a new one under warranty as its not readable for you the end user?
Maybe try customer satisfaction card.

nope, no difference left or right.

Weird, thanks guys....

Minelab tech said their machine does it as well, they claim not as bad as my photo's and video show though. The only answer they gave me is try a screen protector, it might help. If the result is the nature of the screen, I don't see how a protector will magically brighten the contrast while holding it on the left side and swinging it. I asked to speak with someone in design (engineer) so they could explain why this is happening but told the only ones with possible answers would be in Australia. I will be contacting them I guess.

I have had 7 different individuals hold this machine and each have seen a noticeable deterioration of visibility when in the left arm. Have the V3I, the E-trac, and was really excited to get this CTX for the upcoming season and now bummed at the quality of this machine so far. If no fix, I'll just have to decide if I can live with this trade off.

Thanks for reading

I just went and fired mine up and it is the same as yours. The screen visibility from the left is not good.
I use mine exclusively right handed so I have never noticed it before.
My CTX was purchased new in July and I put a screen protector on it from day one.

Tried mine and cant tell any difference. Purchased 8/2015.

I just tried mine and definitely less contrast in my left arm. Still useable but there is a definite difference.
I also own a V3i and found the CTX 3030 screen a disappointment.....especially wearing my glasses which have the transition option....they dim in bright sunlight.
Since detectors are often used in the sunlight I think Minelab could have used a better screen since better ones are available.

I have the V3i as well, definitely superior design in screen and many other areas. The V3i has all the bells and whistles but doesn't find near the coins I have found with the E-Trac. It's just not as stable as the minelabs, specifically in ID at depths greater than 4". Screen issues on the CTX is frustrating me for sure.

I.m a lefty also and mine washes out on the left side and the screen is curved. OK MINELAB what is your answer to these issues? Can the screen angle be adjusted? Waiting for your reply, Bill

So it seems like this issue might have some legs. It's kinda like that stupid dress though, some of see it gold and some of us see it blue. Was it a bad batch of screens? Were they redesigned? Is there a way to tell manufacturer date on these? I'm not getting much from minelab but a polite go pound sand response. I don't rely on the screen much but it is a feature we pay for and a good enough feature that they boast a full color screen.

Minelab does not monitor detecting forums. You are going to have to call the customer service and hope they let you send it in.

Follow up on screen issue. I emailed Minelab and found out that my unit is out of warranty by 4 months. The Tech. said with out seeing the unit he could only estimate the cost to repair. If the problem is the key pad the est. cost $168, if it's the LCD the est. cost $158 plus the return shipping cost. Since it is out of warranty I think I will just live the problem and hope my LCD will continue to operate. Hope this information is helpful to others with this issue. HH Bill
