ISBN and magnets

the Swede

First of all, I would like to say "Thank You!" to all you guys out there and the information I have received when it comes to my "just-about-to-order-metal-detecting-equipment". Did not even think about a life-west, for example; and that the choice of waders was that important had not even crossed my mind. As one of you helpful guys replied: there is a lot to consider and it is best to do it right the first time. Because of the fantastic feed-back I have received this will now be possible. Again: Thank You!

Two more questions today, as follows:

* there is a book out there covering advanced metal-detecting techniques in the water, a book which has received a lot of good words on this forum. And I was just wondering if someone could please post a reply with the so called ISBN-number so that I can order a copy myself.

* my second question is in regards to the fact that some of you guys put magnets inside the sandscoop. But why?! I have tried finding out by checking out past replies and answers to this topic, but without success. It seems as if every post on this topic ends with this just question: why put magnets in the sandscoop? For sure, it is not to "grab" the gold in an extra, tight hold.

Best,

Anders

Beach detecting will attract not only the depositors of gold but smaller iron and steel ie: bobbie pins, safety pins ect. you name it, it will be there. The purpose of the magnet is to prevent these smaller objects from falling through the holes in the scoop. Believe me, they do fall through.

Currently I use two 2in speaker magnets that I took apart and tie strapped it to the inside bottom of the scoop. A better magnet would be the rare earth/Neodymium type, they are stronger and smaller.

I just bought 1000 rare earth magnets for my scoop, 1/4"in dia. and 1/16" thick. I put them all through my scoop to catch the little pieces of iron. other wise they fall through the holes and you spend alot of time trying to recover them. I seem to pick up alot of bobby pins small fish hooks and real small staples. I was amased at how many staples I picked up saturday. It cuts your digging time way down. hh willia
