[attachment 45188 Picture035.jpg][attachment 45187 Picture034.jpg][attachment 45186 Picture033.jpg]I found this, and three bullets in the same place. My detecting buddy said it may be a canon ball fuse or something of that nature. any ID help would be appreciated.

I am not that much of the artillery buff but it sure looks like one.The book I have shows that most have threads on the inside also? Wheather its a Hotchkiss, Schenkl, Bormann or a Parrott I wouldnt know. Somebody else does I bet. Now if you can find the wrench to go with it that would make the set. Cool find! Those were a nice step up from double firing the mortar. Sometimes the fuze on the cannon round went off first and yee haw, duck and cover.

Its a fuse...check the area where you found it and go slow, you are bound to find some more stuff in that immediate area. Also make sure you do the iron mask at 16 and bring out the larger coil, you may find the shell itself....especially if the signal is strong depending upon how deep it is. (The fuse appears not to have been used based on your photo.)

[attachment 45268 Picture036.jpg]I have been back, I have found some bullets. The leaves and pine tags are a foot deep so its not easy to get locked on. I just listen for any signal and then remove the tags and leaves. Thanks for your response.
